I will preface this by saying I am an idiot.

Last time Dh and I had sex was 7th October, we used withdrawl method I am not on any contraception. I can't for the life of me remember having a period since then as I had a really busy, stressed Month. I seem to have an inckling of one around the 22nd of October but just can't be sure. So this month I have been waiting for my Period and nothing at all.

I have done 2 tests; both negative. I can't understand this. I am really scatty I know, but have always been really regular and the only time I have skipped one was DD.

My Doctor is saying that if the test is negative then I am not PG but I am not happy with this and need to know for sure as it is v unlikely I will continue with this PG (for all sorts of reasons I do not want to discuss). I have made another appt with GP tomorrow - can I ask for a scan or something to know for sure? What do you all think about my situation? Surely at nearly 8 weeks I would get a BFP?

Some people dont get a BFP at all! It is not unheard of.

Not sure if they would scan you tbh. You could pay for a private scan if you have a clinic nearby that would do it.

Do you feel any symptoms?

That was not what you wanted to hear was it, sorry.

Yes, if you were pregnant, you would get a BFP at 8 weeks.

Crush - do you feel pregnant? I think it's unlikely that you are given 2 negative tests.

Maybe your period is late because as you said yourself you've had a busy, stressed month?

Who are these people who don't get BFP "at all"?

It's funny I don't feel PG like I did with DD. I am sure I felt pretty rotten at this stage with her but that doesn't mean a thing does it? My skin and hair are looking really glossy but, again am I just looking at the minutae because of fear? There is no sign whatsoever of my period coming which worries me. I am like clockwork.
I am sure by the reliability of tests nowadays that at 8 wks I should see a positive.

I can't just wait like this until I find out I am PG at 3+m when the procedure would be horrific. What can they do to help people in my situation other than just say keep testing?

Ask the gp to do a blood test. If you are stressed it could explain why you are late.
I am normally very regularly, every 28 days but a couple of months a go went to 45 days. I ended up being skint that month as I had bought so many tests. I never found out why I was so late, just one of those things. But a blood test would definnetly pick it up

ask for blood test

My friend had 5 BFN, she never tested positive but was pregnant.

You need a blood test to determine whether you are pregnant if you are unsure of your dates then a scan might not be conclusive at the moment.

CrushWithEyeliner · 27/11/2008 12:52

ah - why didn't he say that to me already - will ask for one tomorrow, how long do they take do you know?

If you have the money you could pay for an early scan at a private clinic. They are about £100. You would have to be 8 weeks to get a reliable result.

Try not to stress though. It seems unlikely that you are pregnant if you used the withdrawal method, might have had a period, have had two negative tests and no real symptoms. There are lots of reasons to suddenly miss a period.

I got my results the same afternoon, but the doc has the blood sample taken straight around to the lab for testing. I suspect that does not happen in UK. The Swiss are very efficient.

You could go private for the blood test, that should be cheaper than a scan and more reliable.

When I missed, the docotor suggested waiting another week then testing again. I basically said in a nice way that I was not prepared to wait another week and I wanted a blood test. The docotor said she didnt think a blood test would pick it up she obviosly just didnt want to do one. So I told her of course it would (wont go into details but have lots of personal experience in this field so know it would). She then rang the consultant at the hospital whilst I was sat there who basically said of course a blood test would show it up and dont make her wait. I got the results the next day. I am telling you this as often docotors dont want to do tests and sometimes you need to get your point across if it is important for you to know soon. I wouldnt pay for a scan because if you are unsure of your dates it may be a waste of money

I would explain to the Dr what you said here and insist that you need a blood test to be sure if only to stop you worrying. When I had mine I got the result back the very next day. It is true that your hormone levels could be very low and thus are not being picked up by a standard pregnancy test, but a blood test would definately pick this up.

I also agree that it could be that you are stressed which on occasion can delay a period, and tbh by 8 weeks a first response should give an accurate result as they detect as little as 25mi of pregnacy hormone in your urine and anything over 5 is considered pregnant (also taking into account the amount doubles every 48 or so starting from implantation you would expect to see something by now) HTH

GP is refusing totally to give me a blood test. He says if the test is negative I am definately not PG. I am shitting myself now. Still no Period.

so what if i am PG he will have made me go through with something I don't want to do and it may be too late to do anything about it.

I am panicing now.

have you tried another test? with early morning urine?

I think I will have to phone up a private hospital and book a test. The weeks are passing on and on. I am so angry that I cannot get this on the NHS through my GP.

Yes I have tried an early morning test which is neg and I would have thought at 8 weeks this would show...but people are telling me it can be missed. I am so confused. I have only ever missed a P with DD

can you see another GP in same practice?

Lots of things can make a period disappear - travel, stress, change of diet, weight loss, upping of exercise, a woman coming to live with you, even the stress of wondering where it is can make it go.

I would think a test would def show + by now.
