So it looks like I have pre-eclampsia again (very cross and upset)

Bang goes my chances of a HBAC and indeed a normal birth. Looks like we are going in for the duration.

Poor DD is mooning round the house like a lost kitten - she knows mummy is sick but she doesn't know what to do to help - she keeps bringing me books and kissing me.

Oh geez...whomoved.!

That sucks! I can't imagine how you feel! I had it with dd, and have managed to skip it this time, but I do know that I have felt very apprehensive to this point [36+5]

What symptoms have you got & how long to go?

Report
VictorianSqualor · 24/06/2008 08:33

Oh no!
Where are you going? The JR?
How far gone are you now? Are you able to wait for labour to kick in and go natural so you think?
I know catherine said that if I did get P-E there was a chance it could be managed rather than straight to CS.

Thanks all - original story here

Am being passed around the hospitals of Oxfordshire VS - not much chance of management. Because I have a flipping great hole in my heart my chances of deteriorating are much greater if I pick up an infection, than most people. So if my bloods aren't good chances are DS will be here within a few days. We've already discussed induction and agreed in my case that it would be a very stupid idea which only leaves another CS unless DS has other ideas and makes his way out on his own.

Felt fine last night when they sent me home apart from slight headache. Then woke up with a killer headache, took my blood pressure and the lowest it's been is 150/110. Which I don't reckon sounds that high but seems to be troubling the midwives a tad.

Oh and I'm having cx every five minutes according to the CTG last night but they aren't doing the job.

At least I've had a chance to come home and pack a bag this time. And on the bright side, I have time to go to Sainsburys on the way and get a decent sandwich so at least we'll have lunch.

Bugger. OTOH you know much more this time round so are in a better position to have some control over the situation. Hope everything goes well for you

Hi whomoved, sorry to hear you've got PE..i had it with my 2nd and 3rd pgs and it's a pain.

If 150/110 is your lowest reading then it is cause for concern unfortunately. It's the bottom number that they are more concerned about and anything over 90 is considered risky.

Have you been given any medication? Or is that a no no given the complication of your heart condition?

whomovedmychocolate · 24/06/2008 09:29

Effie You sound like you have the same attitude as I do to hospitals.

"No you can't bring in some medical students to have a look at my chuff thanks all the same"

WMMC- I'm so sorry

Like you I also developed PE in my 2nd pregnancy, much to my great annoyance and disappointment (also like you I'd planned a VBAC, and actually had good support from my obstetric team).

2nd time round it developed much more slowly than the madness of my first PE experience, and we limped through to 36+2 weeks, although I was admitted for complete bedrest and monitoring for a week before that (was on a cocktail of BP meds at that point). When my BP stopped responding to the meds and crept gradually up even though I had no protein in my urine they decided not to risk the PE becoming any worse (last time it very quickly went into fill-blown HELLP syndrome and I was very ill with it) and arranged a c-section. The consultant didn't want to induce me even at 36 weeks and after the antenatal steroids for the baby's lung development because of the high risk of uterine rupture in her opinion from the induction drugs. If I'd been more "ripe" they may have considered a membrane sweep, but I was no where near ready.

I still feel huge disappointment at never having had a shot at even labour but that's life eh!

During the c-section my BP spiked and I showed signs of seizures and needed the magnesium sulphate treatment again so I know they acting at the right time, although it was very hard having another baby go into SCBU

I seriously hope they buy you some more time and wish you the very best for the baby's birth, however it happens.

I spent 10 days in post section and by that time DD made it out of SCBU so we came hom together- which had been one of my great hopes! The first couple of weeks were tough, not being able to drive from the CS and juggling a newborn & toddler, but that stage didn't last long and we were soon all up & about ok.

Good luck xxx

Apologies for all the typos

Hope your bloods come back with happier news, though your BP seems worryingly high (is your normal BP quite high though?). My blood test results were coming back ok for PET but apparently they are not always conclusive and given my history once my BP kept rising and I started to have disturbed vision they admitted me- at the time my BP was only 130/95 which I didn't think was too bad!!

It's v hard going through it all again especially leaving a toddler at home. If you ever need to chat just message me. Thinking of you & your family (& LO!)

Ha! I've escaped! Went into hospital this morning and my blood pressure had gone down to 120/70 (bless those hypnobirthing CDs) so they had no choice but to let me go home with the promise to return tomorrow. I've never seen an obstetrician look so disappointed.

I know I may well be putting off the inevitable but I'm delighted to be home again.

Thanks all of you for your kind words and stories

that's great news. 120/70 is absolutely normal.

Continue those hypnobirthing cds.

artichokes- just out of interest are you taking low-dose aspirin this time? I honestly believe this helped me avoid developing PE as early and severely as I did in my first pregnancy, and much research backs this up.

Good luck both WMMC & artichokes xx

PS. artichokes - note I should have said I was on low-dose aspirin prescibed by an obstetric consultant specialising in PE! even though you can of course buy it in a chemist obviously you shouldn't self-prescribe.... (she says, as she worries about being sued in the future for bad advice!! )
