Oh my god - I want to marry Mr Zantac

Am 36 weeks with number 2. After suffering from indigestion for about 6 months, peppermint tea quickly failed me, trusty gaviscon finally failed me, gallons of milk has recently finally failed me.

Got sicking of puking at work, stopping the car to puke on the way home and puking when my toddler needs his bum wiping...all down to evil indigestion/reflux.

Had a HORRIBLE conversation with my 'pull yourself together' GP where I stormed out in pregnant strop.

Spoke to a DIFFERENT GP and some FRIENDS.

Took Zantac.

It's not perfect. I still can't eat between meals, eat curry or too much chocolate but OH MY GOD - what a difference a weird little pill makes.

Thank god for modern medicine.

Ha ha - just managed my first glass of wine for months. Didn't feel like I was pouring acid down my throat.

(I realise this is not the main objective of getting rid of indigestion! )

Ooooh, I'm on Zantac too! I asked my GP, sneakily at the end of my ante natal appointment if he would mind precribing me some and he said fine and I got the 150mg ones, fab! His wife has not long had a baby so he is very understanding

so is zantac safe? i asked my gp and he was a little bit cagey [or clueless] about it and prescribed me a 1 litre of gaviscon.

It is safe, but some GP's are reluctant to prescribe anything to pregnant women. My previous GP wouldn't prescribe anything for me and my obstetrician did as he couldn't understand why pregnant women should suffer when there are medications which help a lot for many of the horrible pregnancy related conditions.

There's a product called Kolanticon Gel - like Gaviscon but 80,000,000 times better. You can get it at Boots behind the counter and it's cheaper than the named brands.
BUT it's not been tested on pregnant women, but there's no 'do not' warning on the bottle. We asked the pharmacist when I was pregnant and he said he couldn't see any reason not to take it if there's no specific warning

My GP was also cagey (and clueless.) I think he is the kind of GP that pregnant women don't go to. Asked a GP friend at work and he said it's quite common to prescribe it, especially in later pregnancy, but not fully tested on pregnant women (what is?)

thanks for the info. i had a look online and in the us it's listed as a category 'b' medicine, which means it's not been shown to have any problems for pregnant women/babies but has not specifically been tested. i'll keep up with the hideous, horrid gaviscon and keep the zantac in my back pocket for bad days....
