Fell down the stairs

Hmm. Like the chump I am I fell down the stairs this morning. I slipped on the top step and landed half on my (well padded) arse, half on my elbow and twisted my back at the same time. I don't have any twinges, or pain at all except where I hit my elbow, and as I fell I tried to land softly, so it wasn't very jarring. I don't need to call the midwife, do I? I'm 14 and a half weeks...

I agree that without pain or bleeding, no need to call the mw.

Thanks! Didn't want to be a brave hero, but didn't want to be stupid either!

The baby is really well cushioned at this stage, so he/she will be fine. The biggest risk is that you're hurt yourself, so if you're fine, there's no problem.

Oh you are lovely to reassure me. Thanks ever so much. What would I do without mumsnet - I lurk most of the time but I've learned more here than anywhere else and then when I needed reassurance - there you are. Thanks again.

Hey snowymum - we haven't seen you on the ante-natal thread for a while. Why not pop in and say hello?

Have you had your scan now? Is your date still 2nd?

I have fallen downstairs and then down in the street - within 10 minutes of each other. Just waited to see if I felt all right - that is - no bleeding etc - as it was early days for me.

I am pretty clumsy - also fell when pregnant with dd2 - twice. I was standing on a chair and over balanced - landed like you described. IT was later in the pregnancy and I just made sure she was moving etc. Then fell down stairs on my way out the door to an antenatal appt ( not normally this clumsy) - gp just checked me over and all seemed well.

I figured dds were well cushioned. BUT if you are at all worried - call the midwife - better to be reassured than worrying that you have done something.

I fell down the stairs a couple of weeks ago and got a huge bruise on my bum which meant I couldn't sleep or sit comfortably on it for about a week. But I didn't have any other pains/symptoms or bleeding so I didn't see the doctor. I did a bit of research online and they said it was well cushioned and I should only worry if I had bleeding or severe abdominal pain.

I was 8 weeks 3 days at the time. Got my 12 week scan in 10 days so fingers crossed all goes ok and the bump was cushioned by my bum on my tumble down the stairs!!
