Pregnancy

looking for advice about spd and pilates

I am currently 20 weeks pg with number 3 and had spd towards the end of both previous pregnancies, enough to stop me walking around much (and I usually love walking) but not really enough to go to the docs and demand a physio or crutches. I have now started to feel tell-tale twinges already and I'm wondering about my Pilates in Pregnancy DVD (Lindsey Jackson) which I haven't started on yet.

Has anyone had experience of doing Pilates while pregnant and suffering from spd? Or, better still, can any physios or Pilates teachers give me a little advice? I'm hoping that on the whole Pilates will help rather than hinder, if it helps me to keep things generally in better alignment. But I don't want to do anything dangerous.

I've scanned through the DVD and most of the exercises for later pregnancy look okay except these:

Leg Kicks
Lying on one side, with top leg straight out at hip height, bottom leg bent, top leg moving out and then back, parallel to the floor

Hamstring Stretches, modified for later pregnancy
Sitting up on the floor, one leg out for stretching with scarf/belt, other leg bent out to the side. This one also has a warning to stop if you feel any pain in front of your pelvis, so I think I'll just give it a miss and try to find a different way to stretch my hamstrings.

Advice or opinions welcomed...

I had spd quite badly in my pg, but managed to keep it under control through exercise. However, I found that the pilates in pg dvds were rubbish, just not enough actual exercise in them to help.

I talked to a friend who is a pilates instructor and she aid that it's true, that worries about lawsuits have meant the routines have to be watered down to the point ehere they are basically worthless.

Fwiw I found that what helped most with the spd was anything that worked the pelvic floor (which one should really work in pg so no bad thing)

Thanks ib. There is a physio nearby who does 1-1 Pilates lessons so I think I might book a few sessions with her.
