Is neurotic to turn up at hospital complaining about lack of movements at 17 weeks?

I'm on third pregnancy - 17 weeks. I'd been feeling fidgeting movements for quite a while. New years eve, I got the thought in my head 'I haven't felt the baby move since christmas'.

I think I've felt a few fidgets since then, encouraged with ice-cold fanta and star jumps.... but you know how it is when you get a worry in your head. It's too early for those thumping great reassuring kicks. I seem a bit bloated (much bigger bump) which might make things harder to feel.

What do people think, is it sensible or neurotic to turn up at hospital complaining about lack of movements at 17 weeks?

id phone them and ask
they will probably say "come in" though

I feel that if I ask them they 'have to' give me the works (bloods/scans/history/A&E). Not exactly a treat for them or me.

However, if it does turn out to be soemthing, and I didn;t bother because it was inconvenient, I'd feel a fool.

Same thing happened to me, I went in, they put that big belt think on me and it was recording movements that I couldn't feel. I would just go, to put your mind at rest. Don't worry about seeming neurotic.

Be prepared though, as soon as they attach the monitor your baby will start to break dance, just to prove you wrong. Don't stress, apparently it happens all the time. I hadn't felt DD move all day (at 26 weeks) and was having Braxton Hicks so they had me in as they were concerned it was early labour. As soon as they tried to attached the straps around my bump DD gave the most enormous kick ever!

I would have a glass of coke, and go on lie on the sofa and relax for hlf an hour. If you are still worried afterwards, go and ask for a check up.

Hmm, I guess it's better than worrying. Portable scanner sounds not too OTT.

I had the most awful vivid dream two nights ago, about having a c-section at 32 weeks, and when i came round they were discouraging me from seeing the baby because of 'severe congenital abnormalities'. shudder . darned hormones messing with my mind.

Oooh! Definitely a little limb moving along the front of my abdomen there. It obviously read my mind (or took a big dose of that half litre of ice cold fanta I've just drunk ) .

I'm going to see how it goes... if I'm still worried I'll call up after work, so dh will be home in any case to take over kids and I don't need to 'announce' at work where I'm going.

Merrykifmas I had the same, especially when I was at work because my mind was active on other things whereas the weekends she tended to dance around all the live long day!

I am a born worrier- honestly taking a look at the things I have posted! but I bought one of the those heartbeat machines which are fab at putting your mind at rest, some people are against them and I can understand why because there were some occassions when I couldn't hear something but I knew that was due to the positioning of my placenta- but apart from that the LO hates it that much I only have to put the machine on and she spends the entire time trying to kick it off! I think there is a gestation min limit but if you are a worrier it may stop you from worrying int he future xxx

Are those any good? I looked at one (in a 2nd hand sale - drat that would have been a bargain). I didn;t buy on the basis that it would mess with my mind if I ever couldn't get a clear signal/heartbeat sounded unusual. The box said 24wks - which made me think it wasn't very sensitive. Did you find it helped put your mind at rest?

With my Dd1 I had a memorable 38wk antenatal appointment when 3 dopplers were malfunctioning and couldn't pick up Dds hearbeat. In the end the m'wife used one of those ear trumpets and gave me a scan.
