Pregnancy

Pregnant after miscarriage - can you get early scan (Lewisham, London)?

I am 6 weeks nervously pregnant after a missed miscarriage in August. Although I have a 2 year old son, so I know I can carry to term ok, I was hoping for a reassurance scan earlier than the 12 week standard one. My GP (new to the area) has phoned Lewisham hospital but apparently they dont offer this - does anyone know differently or have any ideas?

I know how you are feeling. Iget an early scan because my pregnancy was molar. Could you enquire about how much a private scan would be. Might be worth the money just for peace of mind x

Fibrav, if you can, go to St Thomas' up near Waterloo as they have a walk-in EPU that you don't need a referral for. (Or they did have, I hope this still applies).
I would also check direct with Lewisham Hospital, as this seems a bit mean of them.
Depending on where you are in the borough, you could insist on being referred to Queen Elizabeth over in Woolwich, which unlike Lewisham, is very good at helping women who are pregnant again after a loss.
Their EPU is busy but very caring IMO.

Also St George's in Tooting do them - I went twice and they were lovely. They're doing a long-term study on pg after miscarriage, I think, so are v. happy to help.

Most hospitals won't do a reassurence scan after 1 mc though they do do early scans when there are problems such as bleeding or if there is a history of recurrent mc.

Thanks for people's input and sorry for the long delay.

It turns out that Lewisham hospital do private scans for £75, usually Saturday. there is a number on the internet
www.lewisham.nhs.uk/privateultrasound.php.

The timings of this didnt work for me but i did have a scan at Apeekaboo Imaging in Erith, recommended by the community midwives as they send people there for 3D scans. IT was £80.
www.apeekabooimaging.co.uk/
They were lovely and were happily able to confirm that all was ok.

When I had my booking in appointment at 10 weeks, the midwife I saw said she would have actually referred me for a scan after all - so keep in touch / go and see your midwife as a first port of call if you can.

I am now 16 weeks pregnant and all seems well.
Good luck to anyone else out there.

Glad all is well
Apeekaboo must be new, they certainly weren't around during my pregnancies!

Free "reassurance scans" at St Thomas at their emergency gynae dept. Had one 4 months ago after a first missed miscarriage.
Call them first to see if you can just walk in. I had to book an appointment because I had no sign of anything going wrong this time round (am 26 weeks now). Had I had spotting I think I could have just walked in and had it.
