Dental treatment during pregnancy

I bit into some chocolate and got a shooting pain in one of my teeth so I think I need a filling. I am 19 weeks pg.

Does anyone know if you can have the local anaesthetic injection when you are pg? Can you have the filling itself?

I had loads doe when I was pg - two crowns. Dentish was aware I was pg and didn't think it was a prob. ring up and ask.

I'll ask them - I have hazy memories of my friend (who was pg a few years ago) having a filling without the injection so I was a but scared lol!

ask for a white filling though - amalgam not great when pregnant because of mercury.

I'm 20 weeks pg and my NHS dentist won't take any xrays or do 'proper' fillings, but will give local anaesthetic injections and put in temporary fillings to be replaced after the baby is born.

I had a white filling done when 28 weeks pregnant without any injection. It was fine. This wasn't done in the UK though but I think this is the standard procedure in EU? No x-rays while pregnant though.

Oh and btw, I know pregnant are entitled to free dental care. Is this only for check-ups and you still have to pay for any work done? Im confused.

You do get free NHS treatment but if you ask for white rather than mercury fillings you will have to pay extra.

you can have x rays while pregnant because i asked my dentist and because the x rays pointed to ur mouth it wont interfer with baby . so it fine

We have hardly any NHS dentists in our area and the waiting list is far beyond a joke. i rang my normal dentist and they said they're private so I have to pay £25-£49 and I have no money at the moment, so having to suffer. Any way around this?

x rays do scatter tho so although dose very small in dental x rays better to be safe unless absolutely necessary. And obviously wear a lead apron over baby.

You shouldn't have to pay for any dental work!

Aslong as you have maternity exemption and are NHS registered it is all free untill your child is a year old!

I haven't seen a dentist since i was 18 i now need about 4 fillings getting it all done next week not going to cost a penny!

Must also note that, that is for white fillings because they're not allowed to give mercury ones to pregnant women!
