Hi there,

I've been hanging around for a few weeks now and thought that I would say hello. Sorry for the pathetic (sp) Nick name, I can never think of anything good

I'm currently expecting with my due date being 01/04/08.

I suppose you would say that I have a high risk preganacy. But I think I am doing just fine under the cicumstances. Unfortunately every doctor, mid wife or health proffessional I see seems to expect me to drop dead at any moment and seems to think that I have no idea of whats wrong with me . Quiet startiling really as I have managed dam well for the last 6 years... Sorry rant over. I dont Like doctors much

To add to the stress levels we are currrently moving to spain and expect to go sometime in the couple of months

I have six god children and different ages so I am fairly use to kids. But I am certain that everything I think I know will go flying out of the window with the bath water and the teddy out of the pram!

Still just wanted to say hi, and I am sorry if I am a pain as I have a load of question to ask!

Also I can never spell so I will save time and appologise here for it.

Hi sns & welcome. This is a great place to be for any questions, ranting, raving, general silliness, etc I´m on the Due in April thread - come and say hello there are loads of us now I live in the Canaries by the way. Can I be really nosey and ask why they think you´re going to drop down dead at any minute?

Hi,

Thanks everyone. macaco I am sure I will be annoying the hell out of you with questions.

soph73 of course you can ask I will try and give you the very trunked version as I don't want to bore you

I had a very bad car accident a little over 6 years ago. Some prat hit me from behind at about 60mph Anyway I ended up wih 3 unstable compound fractured vertbra in my spine which causes all sorts of problems. But dispite 2 hospitals missing it I am still defing medical science. I have to use crutches these days but I am still on my feet

I also got severe Epliepsy from the same car accident and have to live on a combination of very strong anti convulsants. My seisure don't stop on there own and have to be treated in hospital mostly in resus or ICU. But I manage to keep smiling.

I suppose the worse thing is that I have abosultely can not have an epidural as my spine is so unstable. I can't have gas and Air as I am told they don't do that in spain, I can't have pethadine as my blood pressure is so low. I love morphine but I don't think they are to keen on that anymore.

how do I find the due in April tread?

Hi SNS - my Mum had a very serious car accident about 14 years ago and suffered damage to her spine. She was able to walk for about 2 years after the accident and then suffered delayed trauma which pretty much put her in a wheelchair. Medical folk just can't figure her out and she is permanently on morphone now. So I sympathise with you - and now with a pregnancy your spine will be under so much more pressure. The only thing I could recommend is a bump bra - they are meant to be a godsend for back pain.

Wow - and you´re still smiling, good for you I had to have DS via emergency c-section so don´t know about gas & air in Spain. They do do things very differently than in England but you can´t fault the care over here. I´d rather be in hospital here than in England - although I know there are very good hospitals in England before anyone tells me off

Trust me I have my bad days just like anyone else.

I think it comes from dumb stupidity, I just won't let anything get the better of me

Either that or avery old saying that was quoted at me all the way through my childhood. Laugh and the world laughs with you, cry and you cry on your own Not very helpfull but I think itwas drumded into me!

I have to totally argee with you. I am sure there are some good hospitals in the uk. but the standard of care in spain is brilliant. My Parents emergrated over in 2003 and honestly just the how clean the hospitals are is amazing.

Just a little daunting, England is am imperfect system but aleast you know what to expect. Spain is much better but its a different system and just seems a bit daunting on top of everything else.

sorry to hear about your accident and ongoing problems SNS.

You can't on the whole have gas and air in Spain, although if you live near Barcelona and can pay private I think the acuario birth centre does have gas and air.

sns - you´re right it is daunting at first but I´m more than happy to go back to our maternity hospital with this one because I know what to expect. Some of the nurses in there were (imo) a bit harsh but looking back it made me get up & get on with it
