really rubbing your tum works or touching the pressure points just below your thumb and first finger

Are you on the normal Gaviscon or Gaviscon Advance? I get the latter. In a 500 ml bottle. Free of charge (on prescription).

Also, another thing that helps me is prevention rather than cure. So, instead of waiting until I get heartburn to gulp my Gaviscon, I take a huge swig straight after finishing a meal, or glass of orange juice, or snack, to prevent it from happening.

I hope this helps; and you have my sympathies as well; I know how you feel!

Milk straight from the fridge was the only thing that helped me - better than gaviscon or antacids.

Milk is acid and so therefore will do nothing except exacerbate it or cool it because it is cold from the fridge it will not get rid of the acid!! - you need to drink yogurt.

Really glad to know that gaviscon can be prescribed I spent a fortune on it in my 1st pg doh! Agree with yoghurt comment I have found by accident that it is instantly a relief.

The problem with Gaviscon is that it has a lot of sodium so if you have high blood pressure or swollen hands/ankles, it's not recommended. My GP prescribed something called Mucogel. It's really yucky taste of chalk but it works. I've been through two huge bottles already. and it's free. Gaviscon is expensive in the long run.

The big bottle of free stuff that the GP gave me when Gaviscon didn't work was rubbish, didn't touch it at all. Tasted awful too, really horrible.

The only thing that worked for me, in both pregnancies, was Rennie Tumms - you know, the fruit flavoured ones. They were brilliant.
