I am due to go into hospital to have my cervix stitched tommorow as my son (he is now 3) was born at 29 weeks so the doctor wants to do this procedure as a precautionary measure. Just wondering if anyone can help as i dont understand the risks fully at all. The hospital didnt seem sure at all about the risks as it is a procedure that apparantly has not been testeda lot. can anyone tell me what they know?? i'm due to have it tomorow!!

It is quite a common proceudre. I have had it done twice as my first baby was born at 20 weeks. The biggest risk is infection but you will most probably be given antibiotics to minmise that risk. I was also told that there is a slight risk of miscarriage due to the location of the stitch, but it is minimal - I have heard of many people having stiches but not of any complications.

I am very happy that I had it done and if I manage to get pregnant will have another one put in.

Good luck, if you have any other questions feel free to ask.
