I had quite a scary experience during Monday night which I'd really like to offload. I was uncomfortable when I went to bed but put it down to trapped wind (lovely, I know, but common during this pregnancy!). Then I started to experience extremely strong, regular and frequent contractions. I'd describe them as the same I felt in the later stages of labour last time - to the point I had great difficulty in stopping myself from pushing, in fact I had no control over it at times. After about 20 minutes they wore off and I had a nap though was up again quite a lot throughout the night. When I got up early in the morning there was blood in the pan following a wee (please excuse details, I really do need to purge myself of this!), shortly followed by bloody mucous on the pad I'd popped on. By this stage I had of course arranged to go into my hospital. They monitored me there and TF little DD's heartbeat and movements are fine. A urine sample showed blood, protien and something beginning with 'L'. It turns out I have a UTI which previous treatment failed to clear so it has been in my system for about a month now, I also had bleeding from a sensitive spot on my cervix (common condition and begins with 'E'?). So, when they were happy that the contractions had died down and baby is fine they eventually sent me home with another round of antibiotics (awaiting confirmation from cultures of it all). They explained that UTI's can start off premature labour! I really hadn't realised this. Anyway, it was quite a surreal experience, upsetting, and only just sinking in really which is why I'm only writing about it now. Thanks for putting up with me blathering on! I know there could have been several other outcomes which really don't hold thinking about .

God, how scary Levanna. Glad you're home now though, poor you, that must have been awful.

Levanna - never heard of anything like this but you must have been very frightened, so sorry I can't add anything useful. Hope the next few weeks are OK, and keep posting. Big hug.

(A bit off the track, but though I'm planning a homebirth due to treatment in hospital last time, the midwives and obstetrician I saw this time were fantastic, reassuring, sypmathetic and informative!)

Glad you are home Levanna. I have had threatened labours with 3 of my 4, 2 at 30 weeks and one at 34. They all stopped and I went on until 36, 37 and 38 weeks, so I hope this is some comfort.

Levanna, really sorry to hear this, it must have been very frightening and upsetting.

Please be gentle with yourself. I would think that amongst other things, you have basically had a shock, so please be very gentle with yourself. Glad you were looked after and I hope the rest of the preg is fine.

Levanna, sorry to hear of your scary experience and I am glad that things are okay now. I just wanted to say that the thing beginning with "E" is an erosion. I had one with dd and started bleeding a couple of days before she was born (5 years ago). Basically an erosion is like a sore on the womb and is common in pregnancy.

So sorry to hear about your experience Levanna, I hope your UTI clears up and you go ont to ahve a normal labour and birth.

The L thing in your blood is Leucocytes a type of white blood cell, increased numbers can indicate infection. The E thing is erosion as someone else said a type of sore on your cervix which is like a scab if you knock it, it might start bleeding. Very common in pregnancy.

Thanks for your replies, I feel better now I've got it out of my system! Thanks for explaining leucocytes and erosion aswell. They did explain in the hospital, but I think once I found out little DD's ok I pretty much shut off! I'm feeling much better physically too, though a UTI coupled with a baby bouncing on my bladder aren't exactly comfy! Though of course, I wouldn't have it any other way .
