I had quite a scary experience during Monday night which I'd really like to offload. I was uncomfortable when I went to bed but put it down to trapped wind (lovely, I know, but common during this pregnancy!). Then I started to experience extremely strong, regular and frequent contractions. I'd describe them as the same I felt in the later stages of labour last time - to the point I had great difficulty in stopping myself from pushing, in fact I had no control over it at times. After about 20 minutes they wore off and I had a nap though was up again quite a lot throughout the night. When I got up early in the morning there was blood in the pan following a wee (please excuse details, I really do need to purge myself of this!), shortly followed by bloody mucous on the pad I'd popped on. By this stage I had of course arranged to go into my hospital. They monitored me there and TF little DD's heartbeat and movements are fine. A urine sample showed blood, protien and something beginning with 'L'. It turns out I have a UTI which previous treatment failed to clear so it has been in my system for about a month now, I also had bleeding from a sensitive spot on my cervix (common condition and begins with 'E'?). So, when they were happy that the contractions had died down and baby is fine they eventually sent me home with another round of antibiotics (awaiting confirmation from cultures of it all). They explained that UTI's can start off premature labour! I really hadn't realised this. Anyway, it was quite a surreal experience, upsetting, and only just sinking in really which is why I'm only writing about it now. Thanks for putting up with me blathering on! I know there could have been several other outcomes which really don't hold thinking about .
