How long did anti sickness tablets take to work?

Hello,
I am in a pretty bad way and was wondering how long it took others to feel better on cyclizine? My morning sickness, which is all day sickness, has been utterly horrific for the last 6 days and my gp gave my cyclizine yesterday, which I started taking right away.
At the moment I feel so down as I go to bed feeling really sick and wake up feeling the same. I am getting about an hour or so a day when I dont feel full on sick. For the past few days I have been throwing up as well.
We waited so long for this baby and I am so upset that I am beginning to hate being pregnant. I suffer from a mental health condition which is probably making me fixate on how awful I feel even more.
I would love to know how soon the tablets worked for people, all advice gratefully recieved Sad

It is supposed to work quickly but it didn't work for me at all. I would go back to the gp for a different medication if your getting no relief.

I had avomine. I would say it took about 48 hours of taking it every 8 hours to reach it's max effect. If after that long it had made no difference I would have gone back and asked to try something else. I hope you find a drug that helps, it's so miserable.

I am just paralyzed, feel like I can't do anything. Eating or drinking isnt helping, the tablets arent helping. Seriously stressing about how I will cope with another 5 weeks of this. I am just sat here in floods of tears

You poor thing, I've been off work since 4w (currently 6w +1) with constant nausea, vomiting and fatigue. Definitely go back to the doc and ask for something else. Easier said than done but know this isn't forever and have a look at the hyperemesis support thread on here.

Thanks Sparkly, I hope you feel better soon. It's good to know others are off work too, I feel like a massive skiver at the moment, but just feeling so dreadful. My lovely husband just sent me some sea bands which are recommended for morning sickness, so I am hoping these might work. Anyone else tried them?

Cyclizine had an effect within about 12 hours for me.

If you feel it's not doing anything, go back to the GP and ask for something else. There are several different anti-sickness drugs they can try and it's normal for some to work better for you than others.

Sympathy, it's really rubbish Flowers (non-scented)

I tried sickness bands and they did bugger all, but other people say they helped them so it's worth a try!

Absolutely go back to the GP. I never felt amazing but with 3 different ones it at least took the edge off. I also was signed off sick by GP & it did help.

Thanks everyone. I am going to go back tomorrow to the gp as it is starting to make me feel quite depressed. I can't even think about work at the moment so will ask them to sign me off. Its been 24 hours for me on the cyclizine now and I don't feel any better. On a related note when do you get the mat exemption form does anyone know? Just thinking if I try lots of medicine I'll end up paying a small fortune!

Hi Holly. I mainly had nausea and it was metoclopramide that really helped me. It actually had me feeling almost normal after about 24 hours.

You can get your exemption now, just ask you GP receptionist for the form. Boots were happy for me to tuck the maternity exempt box on the prescription even before I had the card, they said by the time the prescription went through it would all be in the system. Xx

Mine took about 4/5 weeks to work. It hasnt taken the sicky feeling away but I went from being sick 20 times a day to once every other day. Still taking it at 33 weeks!
