When does sickness stop being normal?

Hi,
So, I'm 14 weeks pregnant and over the last few days I have started being sick several times of day (morning and evening) and when I'm not being sick I am dry retching. Previously I was sick on the odd day but only really in week 12. I've been very tired since the start but is getting worse - I feel normal for an hour or so immediately after being sick but the rest of the time can barely do anything. This is impacting on my impact to do much work and I haven't done any house work for weeks (when I have tried I end up putting washing on one day and not being able to hang it up until 3 days later!). Today I have also started getting really watery diarreah (sorry TMI! And poor spelling).

DH thinks I could go see a GP but I am worried that this is all still normal and there won't be anything that they can do for me. I'm still keeping some liquids down so I don't think I am getting dehydrated and it doesn't seem as bad as others suffer but it is causing difficulties and is getting worse.... This is my first pregnancy and I don't have any family or close friends who have had babies recently so I have no sense for what is normal. So when does sickness stop being normal and worth going to see someone about? Thanks!

Hey power,

I don't think anything is classed as "normal" really as every pregnancy is different; I'm currently 7weeks with #2 and feel way worse than I remember feeling with #1 (although this was 5years ago!) I've also had a really upset stomach which has now ironically gone the other way ha! If you're managing to eat and drink I reckon you'll be ok but if you're worried about anything you can always call your midwife? After all that's what they're there for, there's nothing wrong with wanting a bit of reassurance, especially as this is your first and all new to you x

Hi power, sorry to hear you are suffering! If your sickness is impacting your ability to carry out day to day tasks this isn't normal and you should go and see your GP as there are options to ease your suffering Flowers

Feel free to head over to the Hypremesis support thread on here: you may not have HG but they're a friendly bunch and some very knowledgeable people who offer good advice and support!
