Midwife appointments??

When is the norm to see the midwife after your initial 12 week booking appointment???

I'm sure first time round i saw her at about 16 weeks (around 4 weeks after we first met)

I'm 23 weeks and still not seen her yet. I'm not worried about baby though it is VERY active (nothing like the first) but i just wondered.

Thanks

all pregnancies I have seen the midwife between 10-12 weeks
and then about 4 weekly
I would give her or your gp a call to see if you had been missed

I saw mine at booking appt and 18 wks, I dont see her again due to being under consultant - but I am sure you should have seen her again by now

it is usually for booking in, around 12 weeks, then every 4 weeks until i think he last trimester, where you see her every week or two...

did you see one after your anomaly scan?

Yes, as Lulu said, but it's up to me to remember and make my appointments. Give your midwife or your surgery a ring and make an appointment. Don't forget to take a wee sample!

Seem to spend a lot of my time carrying a sample round in my handbag now I'm pregnant. Just waiting for the day when I whip it out instead of my purse when at the cash register.

at our clinic, the midwife made the next appointment for me as i was leaving, and i had a printed sheet , with a schedule of when i could expect to see her !

i think that the regular ante natal checks are vital, esp. the urine test, & BP, to check for pre eclampsia and for gestational diabetes. also to palpate you and check fundal height and the lie of the baby...all important things !

call the clinic / midwife on monday !

I've not seen mine either since the 12 week booking in appointment (now 25 weeks).

I've had 2 scans 14 and 22 weeks and have nothing else until glucose test/midwife appointment when I am around 28 weeks. I'm sure I had more the first time round, but on the list they gave me there is nothing else until 28 weeks!

Has anyone else had this other than nannyjo?

Hi nannyjo. I saw my midwife for booking in at 9 weeks. The next time I'll see a consultant at 18 weeks (if I didn't have underactive thyroid it would be the midwife again). I think after that it's every 4 weeks. The consultant appointments are made for me but I think I have to phone up to make appointments to see the midwife.

if you have your own notes (where I live the mother hangs on to them and takes them to every MW visit, scan etc), there's probably a schedule of appointments in it somewhere - mine's on the back of the first page.

I've got an appointment today so i'll ask why i haven't been to see her before now and was this right. I do book my own appointments (midwife writes when she want to see me next) but i just thought it weird it was such a gap between 12 weeks and now??

Gegs73, that seems like a really long time away too. Are you sure that is right. I wasn't worried about seeing her as baby is very active but like someone mentioned on here my urine can't be tested and there could be things happening that i'm unaware of.

I'm also under consultant care (albeit they're not seeing me till 30 weeks!!)But midwife told me that wouldn't effect the appointments i had with her aswell.

i'd check on that- i saw mine every 4weeks for a while, then as i got closer to due date it was every two.

I am a second timer and my appointment schedule says

10 weeks booking appointment ( during which will be booked in for 12 & 19 weeks scan)
22 weeks
28 weeks
32 weeks
36 weeks
38 weeks
40 weeks

41-42 weeks (if necessary)

So yours seems pretty normal. Think they call you in if a problem with the scans but otherwise there is quite a big gap between booking appointment and next at 22 weeks.

Apparently the government has brought new guidelines in so if you are on your second pregnancy or more you are seen a lot less.
I'm on my 3rd pregnancy and I saw my midwife for booking in a 15wks then a consultant at 22wks then it will be the midwife at 28wks.

A close friend of mine commented that she hardly saw her m/w in her second pg. I think that if you have had a complication free pg first time around, they pretty much leave you to get on with it second time.

that to me is nmad though, If your first pregnancy was complication free then that doesn't mean your second one will be.

I saw Midwife and she said she wants to see me every 2-3 weeks now just to be sure there are no complications ( there was in pregnancy no.1)???

I can't keep up with the schedule?? All is well though so that is all that matters
