Trace of protein in urine, but blood pressure is fine

I'm 31 weeks and have only just seen my midwife today after not seeing her since my 16 week appointment (she made a mistake and then I couldn't contact her)
Had to have my 28 week bloods taken. When she checked my urine she said there was a trace of protein, I asked her what it meant and she said it could be a uti and asked if I have any symptoms, I don't & told her that, then she said it could be from increased discharge and left it at that. I see her againin 3 weeks.
Everything I've read says preeclampsia symptoms start with high bp and protein in urine, so if my bp is ok does that rule p.e out?

Yes, high BP is the number one indicator of pre-eclampsia. You'll continue to have your urine and BP checked throughout pregnancy anyway and so if your BP does indicate preeclampsia at any stage, you'll find out. If you experience any symptoms such as pain in your ribs (especially on the right side) a constant headache or seeing spots in your eyes then call the midwife and get checked out as these can all indicate that preeclampsia has developed or is developing.

As for having a trace of protein in your urine, that's not really anything to worry about at this stage. That means there's the tiniest amount present and generally it will be the indication of a UTI or it could just be in your discharge as that has happened to me.

What I will say in regards to the UTI's is that pre-pregnancy I suffered from them A LOT and I would know instantly when I had one. I would be so so ill with them. I've had them multiple times during pregnancy and for whatever reason, I've never noticed them and only known after a routine urine test. No burning when I pee or any more frequent urination than a pregnant lady! I had one so bad at 24 weeks that it spread to my kidneys and I ended up in hospital but only knew I had one because of the awful back pain my kidneys gave me. So it could potentially be that you do have a UTI.

A trace of protein could be nothing but just keep your eye on your symptoms and call the midwife if your concerned. Alone it's not a concerning symptom in general

I had a trace of protein in my urine at 24 weeks. I had my urine tested again yesterday at 28 weeks and there was no protein to be found (I did have some glucose though and they've also detected height ketones at one point Confused). I don't think its anything to worry about. As long as they are keeping an eye on you, you should be fine.
