Visual disturbances 36 weeks

I'm 36+4 and been getting visual disturbances for a couple weeks. It's like bright and darker patches and lines all over my vision. I've mentioned to consult an a week ago, and he want worried because blood pressure is low and nothing in urine so doesn't think it's pre eclampsia. But it's getting worse, struggling to use my phone now.

Has anyone heard or experienced similar or have any ideas what's going on?

Yes!! I had this in each pregnancy. It looked like bubbles in my vision. It happened frequently towards the end of my pregnancies. Since my last pregnancy I still get it, very occasionally, often when I am tired. Still don't know why...

It didn't affect my day to day life very much and certainly didn't impair my ability to use a phone. TBH I would probably have pushed for an explanation if that had been the case. Hope that this resolves for you soon OP.

I had this early on and was told it was due to muscular changes round my eyes as a result of pregnancy hormones. But if you're worried you should see your GP as yours may be due to something different.

Could it possibly be migraines?

I'm with sj257 speak to an optician as this sounds like it could be visual migraines - I used to get them, they lasted about 15 mins and no headache x

I had this about 18 weeks in. It was very scary. Half my my vision used to disappear for about 45 mins. I was diagnosed with visual migraines (no head pain at all) after being thoroughly checked out.

I had this in my last pregnancy - visual migraines, sometimes with the headache, sometimes without.

Obviously get checked out but that's what it sounds most like.

How long do the visual migraines last for? I seem to have this nearly permanently

I had this a few times towards the end of my pregnancy and on and off for about three months after. Sometimes accompanied by a slight headache, I just put it down to a painless migraine as blood pressure was also low. It happened on the day I gave birth, they checked me over and all was normal, apart from chunks out of my vision. I don't get them anymore though.

I had it at 40+3,a few hours before my waters broke. The MW at the assessments unit wasn't too concerned as urine and BP looked OK, although it did get a bit crazy later on. I'd mention it to your MW when you go in to labour just in case.

The pressure in your eyes does change due to the increased volume of liquid in the body. I'd go to optometrist at optician and have a check.

I got mine on and off for about 6 weeks I think. I'd see your GP just to check, mine referred me to a consultant at hospital as there is a history of stroke in the family. The consultant was bloody awful though and basically called me a time waster for coming in for such a trivial matter, even though the GP sent me! She was an awesome GP though.
