What infant car seat to get?

We have been looking at infant car seats for a couple of weeks now and had decided we wanted to get a Kiddy one, probably the Evolution Pro 2. We have the Uppababy Vista and the lady in John Lewis said the Kiddy car seat will fit on it, however now I have been looking it seems the only ones that are compatible with the Uppababy Vista are maxi cosi and be safe ones. I just wondered if anyone had an Uppababy Vista and what car seats you have used with it?
Thanks :)

If you are going to use a car seat for a long period then you are definitely better off getting the kiddy lunatic that lies flat- we have it and it is fab. We use it for long car journeys to the in laws so we don't have to stop unless baby needs feeding/ comforting. We have a maxi cosi as a 'spare' and it's considerably more upright.

Thanks Junosmum. That's why we wanted a Kiddy one, but I wanted one that can also fit on the the pushchair base and I'm not sure if the Kiddy one can.

If you want some good impartial safety advice, sign up to Which. Their tests go above and beyond the standard tests of the U.K.

I have just bought the Maxi Cosy Pebble Plus. It's come up well in the safety tests

Maxi cosi pebble with Uppababy vista
However, if you're buying a base as well you might want to consider a bit of forward planning to save money, especially i you are planning to do extended rear facing.

for example, only one base fits with the pebble and will do erf until 4 years old, so we bought that one. otherwise we'd be having to foot a bigger bill later one.....

We recently purchased the Uppababy Vista and went for the Kiddy Evo luna I size car seat as came out top of the EU safety tests year and the lie flat capability is so much better for baby. The Uppababy comes with Maxi cosi car seat adapters but Kiddy car seats are apparently designed to work with these. We tested ours when we got it home and thought there was a problem with it as the car seat feels really loose when attached to the pram chassis. It rocks backwards and forwards which didn't seem right. We spoke to the shop we purchased both from and they checked their display models and they did the same. They also checked the cybex car seat on the Uppababy, the kiddy seat on an Egg pram chassis, and I've also tried a friend's maxi cosi cabriofix on the Uppababy - all loosely rocked to varying degrees. So it just seems a poor design fault across the board...unless there's a reason for it that we will discover when baby arrives?!

The only other thing to mention re the Uppababy vista and the Kiddy car seat combo, is that the when the seat is attached it tilts forward slightly - more so than on other chassis e.g. ICandy and Egg. -a strange design flaw of the Uppababy / it's adapters. So it essentially means baby isn't completely flat when the car seat is on the pram, which is a shame when you've invested in a lie flat car seat! But as the Uppababy comes with a carrycot it's not a huge issue as baby will be going in that predominantly.

We're planning to stick with this combination, but hard to give any more of a review as baby hasn't arrived yet!!

I hope that's useful!

If you are on Facebook, try the "Car Seat Advice for Mummies and Daddies" group. They have loads of resources, information and people discussing their own experiences with a range of seats.

We've got the Uppababy. John Lewis told us that only the besafe, maxicosi and cybex ones fit. We went for the besafe one which is good and fits well but if you want one that lies flat Cybex do one.
