Hi all, I'm 19 weeks and had not the easiest time recently with sickness and relationship problems.
I'm trying to sort myself and my head out now and it's just come to me that I haven't taken any vitamins etc for so many weeks. I started taking the pregnacare with folic acid until I was being sick around 10 weeks but then totally forgot. Is it too late to take anything now as the damage is done? What should I take. God I'm a crap mum and that's before he baby is even here x

They say to take folic acid up to 12 weeks, and calcium I think

I think the big ones for around how far you are now is vitamin D and calcium, as baby's bones are growing and hardening. I would just buy some Boots own brand pregnancy vitamins and keep on with those.

You should be fine on the folic acid. It's just a general multivitamin you need now to make sure you're getting Vitamin D. I was shit at taking mine after the first trimester..

As long as you are eating a balanced diet you should be getting all the vitamins you need.

In Scotland we are advised to take healthy start vitamins for the whole pregnancy. They're around £1 for 50 tablets and it's vit c, do and folic acid I'm sure.

Yeah as a PP said folic acid only needs to be taken in the first trimester, so you don't need to worry about that now. Try not worry you didn't take it for some of the time you were supposed to, it's done now and if there are any issues because of it, it would show on the scans. A lot of women don't take it for the whole of the first tri due to not finding out until later on they are pregnant (me with my pfb) or they can't keep it down with the sickness, and they go on to have perfectly healthy babies.

As for other vitamins, a pregnancy vitamin including vit D is recommended. Personally I think if you eat well and get outdoors a bit there's no real need, but it's just personal preference. I also found the vitamins to be pricey and the smell of them used to make me feel sick (tried them in my first pregnancy), not to mention I'm rubbish at remembering to take tablets.

I have a multi vitamin which contains folic acid. I'm approaching week 14, should I be avoiding folic acid?

No, you don't need to avoid it after the first tri, it's just that during the first trimester is when it's most vital to the baby's healthy development.
