Pregnancy

Utterly exhausted - twins

I am 9 weeks pregnant with fraternal twins and I am beyond exhausted.

I'm waking up much later than normal and then needing to rest all the time with at least one nap a day! This is completely out of character for me.

I can't motivate myself to do laundry / paperwork / tidying / walking the dog, because just thinking about it makes me feel weak.

Someone please tell me that this period of pathetic uselessness will pass!!!!

Thanks Smile

I feel your pain! I am 34 weeks with twins. The tiredness subsided for a few weeks after the first trimester, but came back for the final one, and now I spend most days on the sofa napping. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. BUT you are growing two humans - take advantage and put your feet up, take maternity leave as soon as you can and let everyone look after you. Flowers

Dorset Congrats on the twin pregnancy! How did you find out so soon it's twins? Did you go for a private scan?

Hi Dorset. I'm at the same point as you and feel exactly the same. A day at work feels like a week. When did you have to finish work, Caper?

I left at week 29 - I was doing a very long commute and by that point my body was really feeling the pressure of carrying 2 babies. Tbh I have felt pretty useless throughout! My house is a mess and I can't be bothered with social engagements - but have just had to tell myself to let it go, there are more important things going on. Smile

Hi Dorset congratulations! I was exactly the same at your stage, I was napping loads, the sofa was my favourite place to be in the day, it did subside though with second trimester.
I'm 24 weeks now and have been fine, but have started to develop super puffy feet my ankles have almost dissappeared, sooooo attractive.
Caper i'm finishing work at 34 weeks (well that's the plan) so I hope I make it, my commute drive is 30mins. Can you still fit behind the steering wheel?

Thanks all - good to know I'm not alone!

Boadiccea I had a scare at 6.5 weeks so had a scan at the EPU at 7 weeks and again a 8+6...definitely two of them!

Hi Dorset, congratulations!
I'm 16 weeks with DCDA twins. The first trimester tiredness was like nothing else. I used to fall asleep on the floor when putting DD to bed, and stay there until the morning. It does get better, my bedtime has been 9ish for the last couple of weeks and I'm not having a daytime nap any more. I also found that the tiredness was much worse when I was nauseated, and getting treatment for pregnancy sickness really helped the tiredness too. I hope you feel much better soon.

I now have 14 week old twins. I was totally exhausted the first trimester (and Very sick), felt a bit bbetter in the second and shattered again Iin the third. I had a 3.5 toddler and was needing to nap at least twice a day.
I must say though once the babies were born I felt much better and feel loads less tired now even with newborn twins. Good luck.

I went on mat leave at 30 weeks, though I was doing a very long commute daily on the train and tube - it was awful. I definitely feel completely useless - my house is a mess and just the thought of going to the shops makes my legs ache Grin

Joleyn - it makes me so happy to hear that you feel better now they're born! I'm getting so fed up with people saying to me 'if you think you're tired now, wait til they arrive!' They don't understand what it feels like to have your entire body ache 24/7...

I think people just like to be doomsayers! I was dreading it and it honestly isn't that bad. I have found it much easier than I did with my singleton. Also although you are up a lot at least you can sleep in between and when you are awake you don't feel awful constantly. I have barely had a day when I have needed to nap. Plus 2 babies is such an amazing thing (although you will never be able to do anything without a million people stopping you to ask inane questions!)

I have 13 month old twins. Exhaustion is norm.
My advice is go with the flow, only have people over who help, (people who just want to take photos of twins are now banned!!), and forget housework. Take it easy and rest as much as you can. I finished work at 32 weeks and mine were c section at 36. I now work 4 days a week.
Each stage is hard and you will never have a minute to yourself but it is fab and I wouldn't change it for world
Good luck xx
