Pregnancy

Slight brown discharge

Hi I'm almost 6 weeks pregnant and last night I noticed some faint brown spotting when I wiped (not every time and very faint almost yellow). I'm really scared I will miscarry (I had a miscarriage last year which began with brown spotting over a week which turned red)

Should I call the doctor? Not sure there's much he can do though.

I definitely still feel pregnant and had another positive test this morning. Really just want it to be ok. Sad

Brown spotting is quite common in the early days Twinkle ... I had some when I was 5+4 and then again at 9+1 and it all turned out to be nothing. I am 32 weeks now.

Is there an EPU at your hospital that you can call? They are generally very good and might ask you to come in and check you over to make sure you are okay. Though be aware, if they do a scan, there might not be much more than the sac to see at this early stage.

Thanks for your response. Do you remember how long your spotting lasted for? Mine is like water but slightly tinged. When I had my miscarriage last time I'm pretty sure it was dark brown with bits in (sorry tmi Hmm) but I can't be sure.

I have an early scan already booked for 8 1/2 weeks, is it worth trying to be seen sooner?

Hi,
I had brown spotting and bleeding for over 2 weeks when I was 6 weeks pregnant. I went for an early scan and they found a sac. I thought it was all over but it wasn't and I'm now 39 weeks pregnant. Can you phone hospital and try and get an earlier scan? It's completely normal to have some bleeding so try not to worry ( easier said than done I know ) Smile

Thanks for the responses. The tiny bit of bleeding has stopped I think?? Surely that's a good sign? Strange. I will wait to see what the weekend brings then call Monday if necessary.

Small bleeds are really common - it could be implantation blood working its way out, or given you have a lot more blood going down to your womb and cervix it's much more likely to have a tear and bleed slightly.
That it's brown is also a good sign that it's this.

I would take it easy this weekend and try to wait it out til your planned scan. One at 6w very likely won't be conclusive and could leave you sitting and worrying for another 2 weeks

Thanks this stage is so frustrating!

I had this in both my pregnancies at 6 weeks. The first time it lasted 10 days and I had an early scan where they said it's a really common time for further implantation bleeding. DD is now 2.
This time it lasted a few days. Am now 15 weeks.
Hope that's it for you now and it stops completely Flowers

Oh also just remembered that at my 12 week scan this time the sonographer said that when the placenta attaches it can create a little pocket of blood behind it (or something along those lines!) which can cause a bit of brown spotting.

I had the same yesterday.
Not when I wiped but saw brown discharge in my knickers when went to the loo.
I'm 9+1 today. It is really worrying but I guess there's nothing much we can do but wait it out and try to take it easy for a few days.
Picking up my 2.5 year old DS every 5 minutes probably isn't helping much!

Thanks for all the replies. I'm pretty sure it's totally stopped now which I'm pleased about.

My friend told me that I should be ready because if it's not this thing I'm worried about it'll be something else along the pregnancy journey!

Oh yes! It never stops I'm afraid!

Probably TMI but I would get small bleeds after passing a big number 2 when pg with both my DS's. So much more blood in the vessels down there when you are pregnant - even at the early stages - that the odd small bleed is very common.
Hope everything is ok for you OP - use it as a reason to rest up!

I've had some pink watery spotting on and off since 5+6. I had an early scan at 6+2 which showed a heartbeat but the spotting carried on until 6+5 so the epu booked me in for another scan at 7+6. Currently 7+1 and waiting but spotting has completely stopped now. Like pp it seemed to be worse/more noticeable after a big bowel movement. Everyone has said it's quite normal though and the epu really weren't overly concerned. The scan seems to be for my reassurance more than anything else which is amazing of them. Glad you're feeling a bit better and hope everything stays positive for you!

It's funny you say that about the bowel movement, that's when I first noticed mine!

It sounds very similar. Mine was also only when I wiped. I never needed to wear a pad or liner and I never had any in my knickers. It's all quite scary isn't it? You'd think this whole process would be less stress inducing!

I did lots of reading on health pages and they all said it's very common. There are also loads of forums where people have posted about the same thing and most have turned out to be fine. You just always sweat that you'll be the one it's 'not fine' for.

I had small bleeds every now and then throughout my pregnancy-all was fine and the cause was never found! Fingers crossed all is fine with you 😀
