Pregnancy

36 weeks + pressure down below

Hello, I'm 36 +1/2 weeks pregnant. Since yesterday evening I'm feeling a pressure down below, feels a bit uncomfortable when I walk. Is this baby moving down? Is it a sign that baby might be on their way soon?

Its hard to say. Some women feel like the baby is going to 'fall out' for the last few weeks, others only get feeling of real pressure on their cervix once labour begins. But yes, it almost certainly means that the head in engaged. Is this your first baby? If not, did you have an early labour last time? Not that it means much, tbh, but if you're worried ask the MW to do an internal exam and see if anything is happening.

I'm 36 weeks too and experiencing the same. Feel like I'm turning inside out down there and definitely worse towards the end of the day! I have midwife tomorrow so shall let you know what she says

juneau it's my second baby and first was 5 days late. Don't remember this feeling with first, but I could have forgotten. Something has definitely changed since yesterday evening. Last pregnancy I had back pain for contractions until the very end when abdominal contractions started.

Brindler what's your due date? Would be very interested to know what your MW says. Yes, agree definitely worse at the end of the day.

I'm 36 +5 and I'm pretty sure he almost poked his head out yesterday! I keep getting tightening across my stomach that make me take a deep breath. More painful than Braxton hicks. I'm going in tomorrow to be induced so not worrying to much but I am wondering if they'll discover that something is starting to happen. I'm hoping that it has so I don't need the pessary! I don't remember it with my first either. Maybe it's just because we're more aware of what's going on if it's not our first.

I'm due on 12 March. Also my second baby and also had contractions in my back with my first!

Brindler What a coincidence with that! and my due date is 12th March too!

Battleships yes you could be right that we are more aware of things second time around. Is all ok if you are being induced? hope so. Yes let us know how you get on tomorrow, good luck!

Also agree that my stomach feels 'tight'. Not sure what braxton hicks feels like, this seems to be staying tight rather than coming and going as I imagine braxton hicks would

With the second baby your muscles have been already stretched so you tend to feel the pressure of the baby more with a second child

My midwife said pretty much what sunshine said. Probably my pelvic floor. Which considering I've only done my exercises about 5 times during this whole pregnancy probably makes sense!

Thanks Sunshine87

Good to hear all is well Brindler Strangely enough the symptoms have now passed. I dare say that is related to me just having started mat leave. My job involves a lot of walking around and standing which I bet caused it.

Yes I definitely feel it more when I'm at work too. Only 2 more working days left though and then I'm done!

Count down for you Brindler not long 'til mat leave! :-)

So this afternoon I am getting sharp pains over my bump. Not lower down in my pelvis and lasting for a few seconds each time.
Have you had these too? Perhaps wind?! Perhaps because I have started iron tablets again? Perhaps, Perhaps baby?! What do you think?

Ohh not had these! Braxton hicks maybe??! I've never had them and didn't get them with dd1 either so not sure what they feel like. Are you still getting them today?

Hi Brindler How are you doing? any sign of baby?
I still get those sharp pains and midwife said it was probably braxton hicks. My bump doesn't go hard and thankfully the pain only lasts for a few seconds, but certainly is sharp!

I'm so uncomfortable now! Also super paranoid that baby is going to come early, keep getting little twinges and wondering if it's the start so could also be braxton hicks. Also keep getting a weird vibrating sensation! Only lasts a few seconds but very odd.

Newfamily2014 · 01/03/2016 16:38

I think I've had that vibrating sensation too..I wondered if it was the baby doing a double kick or punch?!
Have you got plans in place for someone to look after you toddler? I'm trying to make a list!

I've got my mum on standby who lives about 20 mins away. Finding it a lot more stressful this time having to worry about what I'm going to do with dd! Midwife again tomorrow wondering if head is engaged yet

Newfamily2014 · 03/03/2016 16:41

That's sounds good. How did the midwife go? My mum isn't too far away and is desperate to come over but to be honest she would most probably cause me more stress being here (I feel awful saying that but it's true)

Oh I feel exactly the same about mine too!! Dreading it but don't have much other choice as all my friends and other family have little ones to deal with too so don't want to call on them unless I absolutely have to. Midwife went well everything seems fine and head is down! Eeeeek! Getting very anxious now! I think it's the not knowing when it's going to happen and having to rely on others for dd and not just get on with it like we did last time

Ha! Shall we swop mothers for a while?!
This could be our last weekend without our baby! Do you have any predictions as to when yours is going to arrive?
I'm having my hair done tomorrow (long over due) and really want to get it done before baby arrives so hoping baby doesn't come tonight ;-)
Got any nice plans for Mothering Sunday?

No plans for tomorrow - but wary of making any plans at the moment just in case! Went for afternoon tea with some friends today though. Baby has not stopped moving all day. Feels like he's trying to break out of there!! Could just be all the cake!

I had a vibration during my last pregnancy... and when my son was born I discovered it was his leg which would vibrate every so often. It was lovely to know that’s what it was. It stopped after a month or so.
