Placenta come away at the edge- 9/10 weeks

Hi all

I've had a couple of threads after a brown bleed and scan that found a heartbeat at 7 weeks.

Since then the bleeding has stopped and started but never (touch wood) got any worse. I've had two more scans since at 8 weeks and 9 weeks.

By chance last week at the EPU I saw a consultant (there was an emergency and he got called in to help deal with the huge amount of patients) and he diagnosed a partial tear of the placenta at the edge. He didn't seem hugely bothered or worried and seemed to think it would heal. Didn't recommend bed rest or anything although I have been resting since. The bleeding totally went for three days and has come back with just a small amount of brown blood when I wipe today.

Just wanted to hear any other experiences of this and wondering if I should be pushing for more scans/further care or advice from midwife/doctors. I've got some killer backache on and off and am absolutely knackered, feel like shit.

Any experiences or advice welcome!

I had this for both of my successful pregnancies.
Brown blood, diagnosed Chorionic Hematoma that resolved itself by my first trimester scan. Quite common and if there's a heartbeat by 9 weeks you're pretty much safe (99 point something I think the mc studies say)

Thanks Nimp that's reassuring then. I will rest and wait and see what happens.

Haha thanks Dixie I don't think I need to get my lover back yet but maybe this is trying to tell me something!! Grin

I had this with DS2, but rather more dramatic..

At 13 weeks i stood up at a friends house and wooosh... about a mugful of blood ran down my legs. Of course complete hysterical panic...

Off to hospital but they were pretty useless, said likely to MC, come back on monday for a scan. Scan showed placenta peeling at one edge. Advised bed rest and to hope for the best with fortnightly scans.

I had two more massive bleeds at 15 weeks. Tbh my mw etc were all pretty useless and seemed adamant that i would mc, but so unsupportive.

Anyway, by the time i went for 17 week scan it had started to heal and reattach- which they had previously told me couldn't happen (??). When I had my 20w scan they couldn't really tell at all iirc.

No more bleeding at all and no more problems with that issue in the pregnancy. Ds was born at 30 weeks at 8lb3.5oz!

So by the sounds of it you have a much milder version, so I am sure everything will be absolutely fine. Smile

I had this. At 13 weeks I had a big bleed (like a heavy period), the scan revealed that the baby was fine but the placenta had a small patch of damage at one edge. The baby's now two and fineSmile.

I've had a number of placental haemorrhages the worse one was at 23 weeks when bright red blood gushed out of me. I'm now 34 and a half weeks and will be getting induced in 17 days. If it's grown blood they don't seem to bothered in the hospital. Any bright red I would go back in though.

Thanks again all. The thing that's messing with me is that it keeps stopping and starting. So from last Saturday to now I've had nothing and then tonight some stringy bright red in my mucussy discharge. It's a head fuck.

Battle interesting- the doctor said to be more worried about volume than colour.

Not sure what to do.

When I had my bleed the mw said that some women bleed throughout their pregnancies and that small amounts were usually nothing to worry about. If there's a lot of blood or it's accompanied by pain (they said specifically pain that 2 paracetamol didn't relieve)then to go in.

Hi all

Me again!

I'm now 10 weeks and about 4 days and still there is on and off brown bleeding.

For those of you that this happened to- how long did the bleeding go on for? I've been bleeding for around three weeks on and off now but never (touch wood) had a gush of blood. Is this just how long it takes to leave your system?
