Bleeding and don't know how far pregnant I am! Long story and new user!

Hi, looking for some advice, I'm new to this forum. To explain my story... I was using the depo contraceptive injection and had no periods at all. My last injection ran out in July 2015, had a light period and nothing since until 10th of this month when I started spotting. The spotting started on the Sunday and continued until Tuesday morning when it turned red but was only there when I wiped and didn't touch the pad. It touched the pad on Wednesday and Thursday only a small amount. Now Friday is where my trouble began, I'm pretty annoyed with myself actually. Me and my DH decided once my period returned that we would start to try for our 3rd child. So I bought some OPK's and pregnancy tests. Friday I took an OPK (don't ask me why, I don't know! Maybe I enjoy peeing on sticks) and it was positive. Thought 'how can I be ovulating?!' Looked on the net to find OPK's can pick up HCG, took a pregnancy test and it was positive. Now I don't know how pregnant I am or was. The last pregnancy test that was done was November 10th when I had surgery and that was negative.
The loss I've had has been light and barely touched the pad and has had no clots in it but has been going on for 11 days. It is red and is stringy like cervical mucus mixed with it (sorry if TMI) like the type you get when ovulating. I've had a few cramps which have subsided and just like the stretchy cramps you get early in pregnancy anyway and now have low backache. I did have previous bleeds with both my pregnancies with my daughters aged 5 and 7. It's was so long ago though I can't remember how long it lasted etc. I lost a twin pregnancy at 21+5 after a car accident in 2006 also. I have an appointment at the EPU on Friday but I'm totally panicking and worrying that it'll be bad news and annoyed with myself for taking that test and putting myself through this worry when I would have probably been non the wiser and thought this was a long odd period because it was my first one in 6 months.
Has anybody else experienced this kind of bleed and had good news?
Probably worry myself even more now!
Thanks for reading...
Amy

Hi there didn't want to read and run.

I got pregnant with the copper coil in and had spotting then had spotting once it was removed too. Mine was mostly brown but sometimes pink too. I'd also had some pains so Dr referred me to EPU had 2 scans already and everything was growing as it should but got another scan tomorrow as I was on the coil it was hard to date me so hoping tomorrow they can tell me more. I didn't bleed or spot with DD so has been very worrying. Think I spotted for around 2 weeks. Hoping everything will be OK for you too

Hi. With my ds I had lots of bleeding on and off between wk5-8, stated with a gush, all different colours and some pain. She was born 6 lb 8 at 40+5 healthy and is a noisy 7yr old now. Try not to worry, there are loads of stories on here, bleeding in early pregnancy is not that unusual.

Thanks for your reply. Mines been mostly red which is what is worrying me, everywhere I've read bleeding has been brown or pink. My GP did say it could be because of cervical erosion which he didn't examine me to confirm but I'm not sure if that would cause this amount of bleeding for so long.
I hope your scan goes well and all is as it should be.

Abbsismyhero how long did your bleeding last for can I ask? I did have the same thing when pregnant with my eldest, it's was fresh and red and gushed out. I had cervical erosion but also a disappearing twin with her and pretty sure I had a period with my second DD as I was 3 weeks more pregnant at my 12 week scan (thought I was 11 weeks, turned out to be 14+3)

I've had heaps of spotting this pregnancy from about 5/6 weeks, in all colours from brown to red and back again, then an episode of heavy, bright/dark red bleeding with small clots at 8 weeks, followed by more spotting which carried on for a good few more weeks. Has been very emotionally fraught (more so as I have a history of MC) but everything was fine and still is as far as I know; I'm 13 weeks on Friday and have my 'proper' scan tomorrow.
Fwiw, after I had the big bleed I had a scan a few days later and she said my insides were "textbook" - I was still spotting heavily at that point, so I can only assume it's cervix-related.

It's good that you're having an early scan as that will tell you more. It's better to know you're pregnant ASAP - imagine if you'd thought it was a period and had been drinking, not taking folic acid, etc - you'd be kicking yourself when you found out!
Hopefully it's good news for you. Keep us posted!

I would say I was about 11 weeks when the spotting finally stopped completely, having been ongoing (varying heaviness) since about 5/6 weeks. I've never had a smear test and no one's ever checked my cervix (except in labour with DD!) so erosion not confirmed here, but it seems to be the most likely explanation!

Thank you I hope it's good news when I go to EPU on Friday. I don't drink or anything so that's not really a problem and take a multivitamin everyday which contains folic acid as I have a funny nerve condition luckily I've not been taking my meds for that for the last few months either! Been looking at natural remedies hence the multivitamin (pleased I'm taking it now Grin)

All I've done is worry since I found out on Friday. Been in the toilet constantly looking at what's there! I'd say on a regular pad it covers about 2cm width by length and that seems to come in the morning and tail off through the day. Like now I have nothing except when I wipe. Don't need to change the pad but obviously do for hygiene reasons

VocationalGoat I wish I lived with a GP! Mine won't examine me to confirm if I have cervical erosion or not!
I'm trying to hold onto hope, very scary times for us ladies! The anguish we go through during pregnancy and bringing up our children. My mum says it never ends! I'm 29 and she still panics if I don't answer the phone quickly enough

I had bleeding - dark red with a couple of clots in the toilet and on paper, very noticeable - very early in pregnancy. I guess I was 5 or 6 weeks along but had not yet done a test because we'd been ttc for 2 years as I have pcos which made my periods really irregular anyway and had been getting symptoms of my period starting. So I felt like it was the start of my period and used a tampon. Removed it later with barely a spot on it. Did a test but got in to see midwife very quickly as I was concerned about the bleeding so she sent me for an early scan (7-8 weeks) and there was his little heartbeat and everything was fine. Went on to have a very normal (easy in fact) pregnancy and a very healthy little boy who is now 5.

Could you ask if they'll send you for a scan because you're worried?

I wish you the very best op Flowers

I had bleeding and pains from 4 to 8 weeks. The bleeding varied in colour and intensity but there was a time is was so heavy I was convinced I was miscarrying. I had scans and 6, 7, 9 and 12, and all was well. Now 15 weeks and trying to relax! It was such an anxious time, I don't envy you one little bit, but try to stay positive until your scan tomorrow when you'll know what's going on. Thinking of you. Flowers

Thank you everyone who has replied. The pains have returned this morning, low down like a dull ache more than anything.
I passed two very small clots first thing this morning but still bleeding but it's changed from red to pinky brown now.
Hopefully tomorrow they'll be able to tell me what's happening or has happened.
Feel rather more relaxed today, not so frustrated as I've resigned myself to think the worst and that I can't do anything about it so having to go with it.
I have to work this afternoon and I work in a nursing home with elderly people which involves a lot of physical and mental strain. Just hope my manager is understanding of my situation and doesn't pressure me too much to continue at my normal fast pace.
Again thank you everyone. Will post an update after I've been to the EPU tomorrow afternoon x

I've been to my hospital appointment, had scans and bloods. Scan confirmed I have miscarried, there is still what appears to be remains of my pregnancy in my uterus but I'm not bleeding anymore. They have done some bloods to confirm this as they don't know how far pregnant I could have been and will get the results of these on Monday. During my scan they also picked up a huge 6cm cyst on my left ovary! That in itself can be pretty serious as my ovary could flip over and cause massive complications so maybe this was a bit of a blessing in disguise as I would never have know the signs to look out for.
Thank you everyone for your replies, appreciate the support Smile
