Anyone drunk much coke this time?

Not had loads to begin with as made me queasy, but had few diet cokes and then as pregnancy went on and decided the nasties worse couple of cans of coke a day to combat tiredness as was within NHS guidelines. Annoying woman at work just told me (month before due...) this is a v bad idea, didn't wait to hear why and changed subject - weight gain fine, caffeine in line with NHS - please someone tell me this is ok?!

I have 1 x Coke every day. It helps with sickness. I would say the only bad 2 things would be too much sugar or low birth weight from the caffeine. I'm sure your midwife would have said something if she had concerns over the health/size of your baby. I wouldn't worry about it

Absolutely nothing wrong with a couple of diet cokes a day!

I drink maybe 4 cups of tea a day so same as you sticking to caffeine nhs advice.

People are full of 'helpful' advice aren't they?! Hmm

If you are happy drinking something which dissolves limescale (I certainly am Grin) and like you say, the caffeine allowance is within guidelines what's the issue. Some people just need to keep their nose out!

Tell them to poke it. I drink about 2-3 cans of DC a day. Sometimes I can't stand it. It didn't do my son any harm and it hasn't done my pregnancy any harm so far either. I have one coffee in the morning and that's it. Other than that it's water. As long as you're drinking plenty of water too then bollocks to her poxy advice. What about women who have consumed alcohol/drugs during pregnancy?!

People years ago didn't have any guidelines at all and the human race didn't stop... Enjoy your coke Smile

Never used to drink it, now it's my go to if I need to perk up or get baby moving. Normal coke has less caffeine than diet coke, Dr Pepper actually has less caffeine still. Some people would have an issue with us breathins fresh air if we asked them for their opinion!

I'm drinking 1 x can a day and have swapped from diet to normal.

I don't drink tea or coffee so this is my one bit of caffeine vice

Ignore them!

Iv had a can of normal coke pretty much everyday, sometimes 2 cans.. I don't have sickness anymore but Iv always struggled with drinking enough fluids- I say it's better than nothing.
My diet is good (apart from the coke) so I'm not worrying about it at all!
The caffeine guidelines seems to change every year

Oh good Lord I couldn't even try to describe the amount of coke and Dr pepper I drank while pregnant. I had a singleton 2 years ago and twins 2 weeks ago and it was all I could keep down both times. (One day I downed a large bottle all by myself! Blush)
I saw it as a lesser of 2 evils, either dehydrate or drink something that's not recommended.

I heard some idiot say that coffee was banned during pregnancy. Really wish people would educate themselves before spouting old wives' tales bullshit.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a few cans of coke a day, well under NHS guidelines, interestingly (or not!) full fat has less caffeine than diet.

I literally got shouted at by a colleage a few weeks ago while eating a snickers, she said "oh my god you shouldnt be doing that", i had to ask what she was talking about, apparently nuts aren't allowed while pregnant.... give me strength!!!!!!

A friend of mine, who is a midwife, says her baby must be at least 80% diet coke and potato waffles.

Stay within guidelines and ignore unsolicited advice.

I actually crave Coke but feel bloated so easily that I can only manage half a can anyways. Probably get through a couple if cans a weeks.

No one elses business, really, except you, the medical folk and the bairn

I told a friend recently that a full fat coke in the evening was about the only thing I could keep down and made me feel ok early on in this pregnancy- honestly she reacted as though I'd told her I was doing a LINE of coke every evening. She suggested I eat a banana and some plain yoghurt instead. I declined.

I don't even really like coke normally and have stopped now I'm no longer vomiting 3x a day. It's not the best thing to drink, pregnant or not, but really, there's worse you can do...

I usually hate coke but I have drunk a fuck ton proper, real, scientific measurement of the stuff whilst pregnant. Some days it was all I could manage so I very definitely went over the recommended daily amount of caffeine on occasion Blush. Now nearly 35 weeks pregnant and had a scan this morning - the baby is v healthy.

Jesus I drink it everyday and when I fancy it. Research iffy on it. I feel less guilty when I have to walk through the waft of smoke outside antenatal clinic and realise there are worse things in pregnancy than caffeine!

Full fat coke was my craving with dd1, I drank litres of the stuff, she was fine but I gained 4 stone!

Hi Sleepless,

I have been on your other threads and wanted to reply to this one too, to say that you should tell this woman to wind her bloody neck in! Wink

The last thing you need with everything you are dealing with at the moment is this kind of unsolicited nonsense. Maybe she would keep her opinions to herself if she knew how much these kinds of comments affected you? Or probably not - this sort are always sticking their noses in somewhere...

Tell her to foxtrot oscar. Or at least think about telling her - it will make you feel better. Ignore, ignore, ignore. If she says anything else, mention it to your boss if they are sympathetic to your situation and ask them to have a word with her...

Not long to go now until you can go on mat leave and then not long again until you get your lovely baby. You are doing so well - try not to let silly people like this throw a spanner in the works for you. Flowers

I didn't drink any at all all the first time, no coffee at all, maybe one cup of tea. This time you'd have to prise the Dr pepper out of my hand I cant get enough.

I craved Coke during the first 14 weeks of this pregnancy and was drinking about 2 cans a day - one as breakfast Blush

It did really help with the nausea though. Funnily enough if someone offered me one now (17 weeks) I don't think I could stomach it!

Used to be a big Coke drinker when I was in uni, haven't drank a lot of it since then. I prefer fruity soft drinks and could happily drink San Pellegrino orange or lemon all day.

I do generally have around one can of Coke a week though when I want quick caffeine or energy, usually if I'm feeling a bit tired before my tri club swim session.

I've never been much of a Coke fan. Since being pregnant I've been loving sweet fruity drinks. To limit sugar I've found fruit juice with sparkling water to be a good compromise.

BTW where did the phrase "full fat Coke" come from? I hear people say it. Sodas are fat free!
