Hi all,

Am about 7 weeks pregnant with my first - overjoyed and over the moon...but, not only am I finding it extremely hard not to spiral into a state of permanent terror about miscarriage/things going wrong, I find that, despite my delight at being up the duff, I occasionally find myself in a serious fouler!

Last night was my work xmas party - I work in publishing, and literary types are notorious for their boozeathons. I found it pretty tiring being on feet the whole time and remaining sober, listening to people ramble on, fantasising about when I could get home, lie down and eat some avocado on toast. It was the first big party I've done since I found out I was PG, and it was knackering! Plus my dress felt like it was straining over my sore boobs and my belly was sticking out... WAY too early to have a true bump I know but I do seem to get this bloating in the evening. Anyone else look like they're 5 months gone come 9pm/finding themselves socially inept?! xxx

Self-medicating with alcohol is about the only thing that makes socialising with work people bearable, in my experience, so it's no wonder you were flagging. Generally, since I got pregnant and stopped drinking I have much less stamina when I'm going out, and the thought of pyjamas, bath and telly seems infinitely preferable to being surrounded by obnoxious drunken hoards until closing time. I've discovered that even people I know and love get slightly oafish after a few ales - this is a revelation to me.

I don't go out nearly as much as I used to now. I like going to friends' houses, and out for dinner and stuff, but that's about it. Even though the first trimester has long passed, sleep is still the highlight of my day: yikes!

thanks lazyemma, glad it's not only me that finds the thought of a duvet a far more appealing prospect than socialising!...

does anyone else get this bloating thing? x

Absolutely get the bloating thing - I find if I go easy on the wheat and dairy for a while it gets a lot better. I also find red meat makes it worse.
