Anyone have pre-eclampsia the first time but not the second?

I had it the first time, midwife pointed it out at around 28 weeks but the hospital told me I didn't have it. Never saw that midwife ever again (never saw the same one twice) and then at 38 weeks I was induced due to going in to A&E with liver pain and violent sickness. Difficult delivery due to the complications but all good in the end. I had high BP, protein in my wee almost every week and my legs were twice the size but no one else ever seemed bothered.

Am now pregnant with second - 8 weeks - and am terrified it will happen again. I've had plenty of reassurances from my GP that is usually a first pregnancy problem and online it reads that its about 16% chance. She has referred me to a specialist team but I guess because of the mismanagement last time, I am on tenterhooks.

Anyone got any good news stories?

I am 31 weeks with my second. With my first I had pre-eclampsia which staryed as high BP from about 26 weeks and I went on labetalol. My son stopped growing, I developed pre-eclampsia at 37 weeks so was induced and ended up with EMCS (son was tiny 5lb12 but fine!)

I know I am not at the end yet but I have, so far, no blood pressure problems at all. I have been taking low dose asprin every day since 20 weeks which my.consultant prescribed. So far so good though! And this baby is growing so much better than my first did which is a good sign IMO Smile They are watching me a lot more closely though, I have BP and urine checks every week and have done since 28 weeks.

Fingers crossed for you OP

Hi Mulligrubs, thankyou, it is so good to hear that you haven't had it this time! Fingers crossed for you too, it sounds as though you are having lots of checks which is good. I am certainly not going to allow myself to be fobbed off like I was before, so I am hoping I will get proper care. Yours sounds great.

My DS was 6.1lbs and I narrowly missed a EMCS. I watch One born every minute and those births just don't look anything like my experience!

Yes with first. Started at 30 weeks with protein, delivered at 36 via emerg section. baby had IUGR & came in at 4lb 4. You would have no idea now though, 12yrs on!

No to second. Was given low dose aspirin, don't know if it helped. But I managed to avoid it. HATED my second pregnancy, as the threat was always there. She came in at almost 8lb!

That's really good news. Thank you. I spoke with a family friend today in the same boat, she didn't get it the second time either so I feel a bit more relaxed - still nervous but I suppose that's natural.
