Pregnancy

Positive cheap brand and negative clear blue

So I would appreciate some advice :) I am trying to get pregnant, my last period started around the 26th of July its now the 3rd of September and still no sign of period. I took a cheap test first thing the morning and it was a clear positive that came up almost straight away, a couple of hours later I took a clear blue and it showed up as not pregnant. Could I still be pregnant? Thanks in advance

I would say pregnant, clear blue are shit and the cheapies are very sensitive

Was it a Cb digital? If so I got a positive on a cheaper one and a neg on a CB Digital the same day. 2 days later positive on both - lots of googling told me the CB Digital needs a higher amount of HcG in urine to be positive whereas my cheap one needed 10. It takes 48hrs to double roughly I read - but happy to be corrected.

Hope further tests helpful. FWIW I found FRER the best early tests.

There's no 'could be' if the positive test you recieved showed within the correct time frame then you are pregnant. Congratulations!

There are two reasons which could explain why the CB was negative

  1. CB have a sensitivity of around 25mIU/ml and is probably one of the least sensitive tests available. many of the cheaper tests can detect traces as low as 10mIU/ml thus making them better for early detection.

  2. first morning urine should be the only sample you test with really as it is very concentrated. Throughout the day your urine will dilute which can result in negative tests even when you are pregnant.

i think CD digis are the devils work Wink

i believe inside they are just a normal strip test, then a teeny computer has to read the line and convert it to "pregnant 1-2 weeks" etc...i guess this extra step naturally affects the sensitivity.

i also dislike them as the result doesn't hang around for all that long, so you cant keep looking at it for days hours to help you believe you're finally pg!! Grin

I have another clear blue one in the pack so I will try that tomorrow morning. Hopefully it works if not I'll buy some more cheapies :)

5hell I thought it might just be me who keeps positive tests and keeps looking at them! :)

This is my first time going through this and I can't quite believe it's real!

Laura1992 I have so far only had positives on cheapies, from the chemist and online. Haven't dared do a CB digital incase it says not pregnant. But as everyone else as said a positive is still a positive.

Congratulations!

If you still have the first CB Digital you can break it open and see the blue lines. A bit of googling will show you which is the control line/s and which is not. ( this is what I did! Helped reduce he panic a tiny bit!)

Oh right I will look at that when I'm home from work. I'm so excited :) I'm wondering should I just buy a cheap one again and try tomorrow?

I got my BFP 6 days before my period was due on a cheapie :)

I then went on to store obsessively every test I did over the next 4 weeks. Took photos of the line getting stronger each time. Oh god.

Don't break a digital test open. digital tests work differently to normal tests and so they will always have two lines. Besides we have already established that you are in fact pregnant so it's really not necessary to start obsessing over tests. It can be a downward spiral believe me.

You definitely need to test again tomorrow, I didn't believe my result from one test :-) Fingers crossed for you! How long have you been trying ?

Yes good advice sarky.

Should explain why I did it!!
Just for me I found it helpful as saw the lines increase on CB digitals - and needed to take steroids, pessaries, etc... book intralipids - all expensive if pregnant and critical to do ASAP - to avoid mc. And was not sure if pregnant when saw not Pregnant on CB digital ( and had no other tests in apart from an Internet cheapie) - but realise this is not the case for most! I found a useful site which showed what the 3 lines inside a Cb digital should look like which convinced me to buy the private medications in time ( had chemical pregnancy month before as had not got medication so was rather paranoid!)

I found the pink inked tests on FR less confusing ( after I drove round 3 shops to get some as they were on but 1 get 1 free offer when I got my faint positive and everywhere I went to was out of stock!!)

I'm buzzing! I just have that feeling! I feel all bloated and stuff. I have been trying since I got married in June so it hasn't taken too long. Another thing I was wondering is if I do indeed keep getting positive results should I tell my family straight away? My husband says not to tell a soul until the 12 week scan but I can't contain myself! Lol

Congrats!
Totally up to you who is told. Some wait until had a scan and past the early stages when mc risk is higher, whereas others tell people that they want to and who they know will support them if it does not progress.

I’ve done Various of pregnancy tests Andy they’ve come back positive but then I’ve done a clear blue digital this morning and it’s come back saying not pregnant which one do I believe?

While TTC I used all sorts of tests, but I still found myself preferring the cheap ones. When I say cheap I mean 75p for a pack of three.

Hospitals use the cheap strip tests.

The cheap ones are simple, easy to read and you can buy plenty of them. We all know how obsessive it can get when you're waiting for a BFP, so I found having a few boxes of the cheap ones much preferable.
