Pregnancy

Measuring 6+2 at 7+1

Hi, I had a reassurance earlt scan today and this is ny third pregnancy (previous too sadly ended in mc) and I do not feel reassured at all. Shall I brace for the worst? In previous two pregnancies we did not get as far as seeing heartbeat.

There was some today- so some great news! We were not told the heart rate and I did not realise this is something to ask about. But the size of the fetus was 5.9mm which apparently puts the dates at 6+2. I know when I ovulated and also know when I got a positive test, so 6+2 really does not add up. It was an abdominal scan.

Seeing the heartbeat was amazing but I dont want to get my hopes up because of such delay in growth.

Just seeing what were the outcomes of people with similar stories? Now I am thinking I shouldnt have had the scan, wasted money and made me feel worse.

Thanks for all comments.

When I was what I thought was 6 weeks I had a scan where they said I was actually 5 weeks. At my 12 week scan they put it back to what I had originally calculated so don't worry. Early scans tend to be less accurate.

Dates aren't accurate that early on. My dates were a week behind at me 6 week scan (which should have been 7 weeks) then at my week scan it turns out I was 13 weeks and the sonographer explained that it's hard to get an accurate measurement so early on. My measurements were taking on an internal scan which is supposed to be more accurate than abdominal too. Apparently it's less accurate to get a date so early on an abdominal scan so that probably explains it more.

Seeing the heartbeat is a brilliant sign so please feel reassured Flowers

Sorry my keyboard is awful, or I'm too tired!

That should have said at MY* 6 week scan. And I missed out the 12 on 12 week scan.. Oops!

Thank you for sharing your positive experience Cornberry and Frillsandspills, reading this does give me hope. I just feel like I want to get properly excited but I am terrified of letting my 'caution' guard down.

I had a reassurance scan at 7+1 after two miscarriages and it dated me at 6+1. I panicked as I knew my ovulation dates for definite.

By 10 weeks baby was measuring 9+4 and by 13 weeks baby was measuring 12+6.
She was 8lbs 2oz when born and is now almost three and really tall.
Dd2 measured bang on at 8 weeks and 12 weeks but was then only 6lbs 14oz when born and is now almost 5 months and only just in 3-6 month clothes.

The early scans don't seem to be very accurate with dating or even giving an accurate idea of the eventual size of the baby.
Try not to worry although I know it's so hard. There's no reason why this little bean shouldn't be perfectly healthy.
Xxx

Early scans can be wrong - at my first scan I though I was 6+4, the measurements said 5+4. Forward 8 weeks and measurements went up a week again.

same here - I went at 8 weeks to be told the foetus was only 6 weeks and to be told it was 50/50 whether my dates were out or it wasn't growing. thank goodness 25+6 today and she gave me a good kicking this morning!

unfortunately nobody can give you any guarantees, but a hb is a very promising sign at your stage, fingers crossed for you.

This morning I woke up not feeling pregnant any more. I did not need to run to the loo at 2am, I dis not feel nauseated at waking up and swallowing of vitamins did not gag me in the least. Breasts not as sensitive as they were few days ago.

Light but persistent cramping yesterday and today, not strong enough for me to run to the A&E, no blood/spotting.

I dont know what to think and how much of it is just in my head :( I am breaking down, I dont want to be strong again through another miscarriage.

Bad day- sorry for the rant!

Just an update- not a news anybody wants to hear particularly, but maybe it will help someone from false hopes-had another scan at 8 weeks, the baby's heart stopped beating at 6+6, so thr delayed growth at thr original scan was an indicator of bad news coming. Sad and numb and incredulous. I thought it was third time lucky! Obviously not for me. Hoping everyone else's outcome is the happy opposite (it cant all be bad) Cake
