7+1 measuring 2.8mm - any stories of hope?

Had an early scan today because of some brown spotting a couple of days ago. I had 2 mcs last year, one at 5+2 in May, one at 9ish weeks in December. I am 37, no dcs yet.

So, I was expecting to measure over 10mm today. Gutted to measure 2.8mm. I am pretty sure of my dates because I have been tracking my periods and opk'ing.

One positive, the baby had a hb.

However, with my last mc, I saw hb, measured small (although not as big a difference as this time!) and two weeks later everything had gone :( so understandably I'm gutted.

Nurse at epau was pretty vague, mentioned my dates might be out (despite me saying there is no way I am 2 weeks out) and discharged me. Next scan at 12 weeks.

DP and I are crestfallen. Want to try and be positive and have hope but I feel almost certain we're going to have our hearts broken again.

Does anyone have any stories of hope where their measurements were significantly out, but all turned out well?

Thanks for reading :)

I don't personally have experience but ive read many many similar stories as yours. Have you done any conception indicator tests? Xx

I wouldn't bother with clearblue tests, they really aren't going to help you here.

I'm surprised they're leaving you until 12 weeks with your history and with your dates not matching up atm.

If I were you I'd probably go to the GP on Monday morning and request that they do your HCG levels and a re-scan in a week or so if they are rising in line with a viable pregnancy.

I'm so sorry you're having such a worrying time.

Thanks Saul. I think that's what I am going to do. I feel pretty fobbed off by the epau :(

Id also get your progesterone tested as well. If low they could give progesterone supplements. I'd keep trying to find answers don't let them fob you off.

I asked the nurse at epau about progesterone. She said we don't prescribe it... But if this pg doesn't work out we will test your bloods and you will get heparin...

I think I am going to have to start researching so I am better informed. If this pg doesn't work perhaps private testing would be best...

Heparin is for blood clotting issues which might not be a problem unless they have specified this? I have had many mc's now and I think her advice was terrible.

Go back to the GP and ask for repeat HCG and a scan in another 1-2 weeks. And see if there is a mc clinic at your hospital to go to. I hope it all works out, let us know Flowers

If it's possible, I would have another scan in 10 days (from your last scan). You can have one privately and if you have insurance it should be covered under gynaecology. If for some reason another scan isn't possible then I think going to an Early Pregnancy center to check your hcg levels would be your next best option.

I am unfortunately going through the same thing, measured 2.8mm with no heartbeat at 7 weeks a couple of weeks ago and had my second scan this past Friday and still no heartbeat. I would have found waiting until 12 weeks torture so hope you can find some way to get yourself answers.

I meant to add that I do think that the fact that there was a heartbeat is a good sign. The measurements can be off this early so try no to get too hung up on that. A repeat scan in 10 days will further reassure you if there's still a heartbeat and the rate of growth is on track.

If it's any consolation I was told at 7 weeks baby was too small hcg was not doubling as it should and I might be ectopic (again) I kept telling them I'd charted my cycle and thought I was only 5wk4days but got ignored. One doc wanted to admit me for surgery_despite no ectopic symptoms. I declined by 8 weeks we had twins in the uterus. By 9 weeks one foetus looking good. I'm now 15 weeks and growing..... Live in hope x
