Cervical stitch

Hi there - I'm hoping to gather some experiences/wisdom! Smile

I'm on pregnancy number 6, this is my history:
1- full term baby (emergency section delivery)
2- early miscarriage
3- twins born at 22w (no explanation, cervix just opened and went into early labour), too young to survive
4- early miscarriage
5- early miscarriage
6- now 9 weeks pregnant (single pregnancy)

Due to losing pregnancy 3 I'm wondering if I should have a cervical stitch to prevent another early birth, but have been told that as I had no problems like that with pregnancy 1 it's not necessarily needed.

Any advice? I'm almost at the end of my fertile years so this is likely to be my last pregnancy...

You can ask to be referred to a consultant and then discuss it with them. They would be able to then do an internal scan to check to see whether you have a short cervix and whether it is soft.

Sorry for you previous losses, definitely insist on being referred.

That's good that you are already under the consultant. I remained under the consultand having weekly internal scans and then fornightly from 21 weeks to track any changes to my cervix and was signed back to.midwife care at 34 weeks. They did find mine was short and soft, but prescribed progesterone pessaries and rest which helped. Am now 38+2 and clearly all worked as this baby is showing no signs of appearing anytime soon, even though cervix is soft and has been slightly dilated for a couple of weeks :)

Wishing you lots of luck with the pregnancy
