Hi

Just wanted to find out about 3D scans I'v seen alot of people have had them and just wondered how come I have not been told about it by my m/f. Why do you have them? I'v noticed some people have them for their 20 week scan is this by choice or what! I would just like enlightening on the matter! thanx x

Generally you don't get them on the NHS (except occasionally if there's reason to suspect a complication that they would help to diagnose). People who have them are normally either having all their antenatal care privately or have arranged the 3D scan privately (we did).

If you are having it done privately just for a good look at the baby then the suggestion is no earlier than (I think) 18 weeks and no later than (I think 32 weeks) -- something like that, anyway. The "ideal" is around 25-29 weeks when the baby has put on a bit of fat and looks like a baby but isn't so big that he/she is running out of room in there and is all squished up.

Depends on where you live and which package you want.

I'm in Scotland, the cost is usually between £100 and £200 depending on length of appointment, how many pics you get, length of dvd etc.

They arent recommended if you dont want to know the sex of your little one as sometimes it can be very obviuos IYKWIM?

In SE England it's more like (or was a couple of years ago -- there are more companies doing it now so the price may have dropped) £250 or so.

The nhs doesn't offer them but imo if they offered them at a pirce I am sure they would be able to make extra funds for the nhs..

We have just had one. Usually they are done after 28 weeks as thats when its best to view the baby. As far as I know the majority of clinics won't scan 3d/4d before then...

I'm 28 weeks and had one because we are lucky enough to get the opportunity and also we wanted to see our baby in 3d.!! We also had one with dd but that was around 2 years ago when it was heard of but not as common as it is now iykwim.

Ours was £175 with babybond and well worth it..!! 2d picures, checks like at 20 week scan,3d pictures,4d dvd etc.

BTW we wanted the sex confirming each time and it was BUT if they hadn't told us I still would have been non the wiser. I am not trained in scans so have no idea what i'm looking at let alone what im looking for..!!

If you go via babybond then mention "bounty" you get a discount 10% i think. xx

Interesting, shhhh. Ours was with babybond too (almost exactly two years ago) at 27w0d (got great pictures) and the u/s tech then said that we'd been quite lucky that she could get some nice clear 3D shots of DS curled up because often once they got to that age you couldn't fit in any whole-body or nearly-whole-body 3D shots but had to focus in on bits instead and parents were sometimes disappointed when they came at 28 or 29 weeks. So they definitely didn't have an only-after-28-weeks rule then.

hi

thanks for the info. I'v looked on baby bond and its £195 although the closest place to me (derby) is birmingham. However I googled baby scan and found that the local, 10 mins away, private hospital offers them for £150, special offer, including:

30 minute appointment.
2D and 4D scan, with up to 6 family members / friends present.
Gender of baby given where possible / requested.
A selection of eight 2D and/or 3D thermal printed images.
CD-Rom of 2D and 3D images.
5 to 10 minutes of DVD footage including 2D and 4D video clips.

so i'm thinking thats a good deal! x

Btw nateyo, that is a good deal...Ours was £175 and with dd 2 years ago it was £190. Let us know how it goes. Its an amazing sight to see..xx
