Where's the pattern?

Hi all

I am heading up to 23 weeks pregnant this Thursday and have felt movement for about 3 or so weeks. I keep reading about how important it is to monitor the baby's activity so that you can notice any change in pattern. However it seems to have no pattern!

For instance Saturday night baby was going wild about 10-11pm. Last night at same time absolutely nothing. Also some days I feel big hulking kicks up near belly button and then I still get days where all there is is a bit of low key squirming very low down.

Can anyone tell me when they started to notice a pattern? Also is it normal to still have hours at a time where I am feeling nothing at this stage?

Thanks!

Hi miss
I have the same problem but only 22 weeks here. I got myself into a right state a few days ago as I vouldnt feel any more cement for a whole day.
I've googled a lot and have also read in my pregnancy "what to expect" book that movements start to have a definite pattern after 27 weeks, that's why they don't encourage monitoring so early.
I would say give another 3 weeks or so.
Obviously I'm not typing from experience here, it's what I've read, so others may have better informed opinions.
All the best Smile

It's only after 28 weeks that you're meant to even think about counting the kicks. Before then I think it's perfectly possible your baby is moving but their so little still you don't notice it if they happen to have moved position slightly. I'll be honest even after 28 weeks I'd struggle to count kicks because some kicks I can feel inside and others I only notice if my hand is on the right place on my bump at the right time. I do have patterns of timing of movements though so just keep an eye on that

I'm 40+4 and midwife asks this every time. My answer is always 'after I've eaten' which she never really seems satisfied with but its the truth!!

Yes, eating does set them off!

It's good to know it might just be too early for this, I had a look and couldn't get a definitive time to start but will leave it a while.

thanks for the answers

Midwife told me that they don't generally start to establish a routine until around 28 weeks, at 23 weeks the baby can still tuck itself up in a corner.

I am currently 31+5, I don't get many kicks but she moves all the time, so for me if there was any reduction in her movements I would be contacting the midwife.
