waters leaking?

Last night some of my plug came out followed by a trickle of fluid. I continued to have more trickles that were going through my underwear over the next half hour so I put on a maternity pad and went to bed. This morning the pad is damp but can't feel anything else coming out so not sure what's going on. I tried calling hosp to ask advice but they were in middle of handover and seemed annoyed with me for calling and said to ring back later. I'm scared to now! Do I need to or just wait and see if contractions start? I'm 40+1. Thanks for any help.

Definitely ring again and speak to someone. I'm 37+5 withy first so can only go on advice given by mw. They may want to know the colour of your waters and will advise from there. They'll probably sat stay at home but for you to call them back in x amount of hours if nothing has started or call them when contractions are no longer bearable at home. Again this is only info I have tried to remember. Good luck with it all x

Phone the hospital again - this happened to my DD at 38 weeks and they told her to pop in, taking the pads she had used so they could judge type and amount of fluid. She was booked in for induction but started labour spontaneously first. Handover shouldn't take more than about half an hour….

You need to call them back and insist on speaking to someone who will assess you. If your waters are going they need to see how fast the progress is because most hospitals need to book you in for an induction if nothing has happened within 24 hours. When I called them to say my waters had gone they asked me to come in for immediate assessment.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Thanks for your responses. I've called back and they've asked me to go in this afternoon to be assessed. I'm v tired after 6 days of prelabour so hoping I might get a sweep or something to maybe speed things up!

Hi ladyflower, do you have an update on your waters? I'm in a similar situation to you. I'm 39+6 with my first and think I leaked some water through the night while I was sleeping. No gush or anything. I called the hospital and they advised me to put a pad on and keep an eye on it and call them back if the pad gets damp or wet but no more water so far. No labour pains or anything, feel like I'm in limbo x x
