Hello,

Just wanting some advice really. Has anybody else been diagnosed with polyhydromnios? I went to the hospital the other day as I had reduced foetal movement and whilst I was there the mw booked me in for a growth scan as she said I seemed large for my gestation (30 weeks) the scan showed that I had 24.5cm of amniotic fluid and that I needed regular monitoring from now on with my ob. they also said that the baby had an estimated weight of 5lb?!?! I am freaking out- one because I am worried about the ph and another because I still have 10 weeks to go.... does anybody else have experience of this? what was the outcome? is it likely I will go full term.. and if so - how big is this (not so little) boy going to be? :( any advice would be great.

Thanks,

E x

Hello! I had polyhydramnios too with dc2. It was found at my 20 week scan but there were no signs of any other problems. I had a glucose test which was negative and worried myself silly unnecessarily.

I had more braxton hicks than with dc1, in fact they became quite painful because of how big I'd managed to grow. I was induced at 40+3 and the mw said I didn't seem to have much more water than expected at that point although dc was 10lb 4oz so quite large! I don't have much advice other than make sure you don't overdo anything, rest when you start to get pains and put on lots of stretch mark cream Grin.

I still wonder now whether I actually had it or whether I was just carrying a rather large baby as they were surprised at the weight when dc arrived.

thanks for your reply :) - so did you still manage to deliver naturally? this is my first and I have had a catalogue of worries the whole way through with high nuchals and a CVS. no GD as I got tested last week but I am so big already I feel like I am going to pop. I cant see how I will go another 10 weeks if I carry of at this rate.... what is the likelihood of induction do you know? x

I had this with ds2 (I had forgotten the name!). I was closely monitored with regular scans, and had him at 39 weeks, weighing 10lbs. I had an emcs in the end; I was booked in for an elcs at 39+2 as I have a narrow pelvic arch and had a prior section, but I went into labour naturally. Sorry I can't help with the natural delivery question.

I had it but no obvious reason and he was physically fine. Irritable uterus, loads of braxton hicks that made me quite fed up.. induced at my request bang on 40 weeks . 7 lb8 baby.

And natural, quite quick delivery. I practically enjoyed that birth.

Sorry - had to go out, school run, swimming lessons etc etc

I did manage to deliver naturally, only really noticed that much of a difference in size just before the pushing stage and by that point gravity sort of took over anyway.

I'm not sure on rate of induction, I was induced for both babies and the first over 14 days late so although I thought I may deliver early due to the ph it wasn't totally unexpected for me.
