Maternity Allowance - much different to wages?

I'm waiting for my letter to confirm my entitlements which should be here next week. So I haven't got too long to wait if it does arrive when they say it's going to. But I just wanted to know that if your income is lower than the £130 odd a week it states, do you really get 90% of your weekly average wages?

My wages were random due to part time work, the wage slips I sent had all different amounts on.
I get £190 every 2 weeks, I think it worked out a little under what I earned when averaged out. Not sure if that is much help.

Thanks skyra. My wage slips are always different too, no idea why though really! So wondering exactly how they'll work out the average!

I earn, on average, about £115 a week. My maternity allowance is £214 every 2 weeks, so not much less than my wage at all.

You're supposed to send off your best 13 wage slips from the last year (they don't have to be consecutive weeks) then they add those amounts together (before tax), divide them by 13 and 90% of that figure is the amount you will receive.

I think it's 90% of your wage OR £130 whichever is the lowest. So if you earn £100 a week you'll only get £90.00
