Could I be pregnant?

Ok so I know what you're all thinking just do a test and find out, well I thought that too and twice the test has said nope :( the doc isn't that interested just says well leave a week and try another test grrrr. So I borrowed a preggy friends doppler and i think (not being in medical profession) I'm picking up a baby's heart beat. My heart rate sits at 67bpm but the other one I'm picking up varies from 111-120 :-/ Just to clarify my last period was mid July so I would if I am be around 7 weeks pregnant...please somebody tell me I'm not going crazy xxx

It'd be impressive to pick up a heartbeat at 7 weeks so I'd discount that theory.

Did you have unprotected sex?

Go to the Dr and demand a blood test.

Honestly, most hand-held dopplers will only detect heartbeat from around 12 weeks+ Any earlier than that is very unlikely.
I would stick to doing another test. Which brand have you used? I've always found clearblue digital to be reliable, especially if you suspect you're around 7 weeks.

You won't detect a heartbeat at 7 weeks. Even the midwives don't attempt to start listening until 16 weeks. I expect you're hearing your own heartbeat but counting incorrectly (easy to do if you're not familiar with the sound).

Which tests are you using? I always found first response tests to be the most sensitive. If this is an unusual thing for you then I would go see your GP.

The tests were rapid response ones, I've been pregnant before and didn't ever show positive on a preggy test the pregnancy was confirmed via ultrasound at 18wks :-0 here's a couple of pics of the doppler surely that's not my heart rate lol x

Go to your GP! I'm not sure what else to suggest. They may well do some bloods. Good luck!

My LP was 3rd July and I'm 11 weeks so you'd be about 9, not 7? Or do you mean the literal age of the foetus rather than weeks pregnant?

Anyway tbh it sounds unlikely. How could a pregnancy test not work? Do you not produce pregnancy hormone or something?

You're not pregnant. A test would have been positive if you are.

Ha I guess I never did with my daughter, she's 8 now...did umpteen tests with her, had one very faint positive but that was disregarded by the doc as an evap line. Then the doc did 3 tests all negative, it was only when I was sent for an ultrasound to 'confirm' his not pregnant theory that my lil lady was confirmed at just short of 18weeks! But I never had that problem with my son, he showed up on a pregnancy test a week after my period missed :) x

Well pregnancy tests don't work late- I don't think they work after 10 weeks. Could that be why your daughter didn't show a positive?

If not did they ever explain how you were pregnant without any hormones? I've seen this a few times on here and don't get it at all

they never said why the tests never showed positive with her, and we'd been desperately trying to conceive for over a year when we got preggy with her so I'd been doing tests since a week before my period was due to when the ultrasound confirmation lol...I have messed up hormones anyways with my strange 37day cycle lol :)

Why don't you just pay to have a scan done privately then?

That's what I'm planning on doing britnay. Was just really looking to see if anybody else had been in a similar situation, I guess not ha

I'm not sure what the machine is picking up, but it won't be foetal heart beat that early - the entire embryo is only the size of a blueberry, let alone the heart! White noise from a blood vessel, maybe? I am baffled as to how anyone can be pregnant and it not show on your GP's tests - I am presuming he took bloods? If you manage to find out how it works, I'd be fascinated to learn, if you don't mind coming back and sharing? Smile

Either you are not pregnant or you are n more pregnant than you think n it is a baby hb the doppler is picking up.

Try going to a walk in centre type gp service there will be one localish somewhere to you we have one 20mins away at hospital attached to a+e that's 24he n another 20mins away in a small town open 8-8 basically sit n wait gp surgeries I have used in past when couldn't get seen by gp or for my child when I didn't agree with diagnosis- I was right (many years experience as children nurse I knew I was!)

Hope you get the result you want

I don't think you should go to a walk in centre because multiple pregnancy tests and a GP have told you you're not pregnant but you think you are Hmm that's not exactly what they're intended for
