Hair dye - all-over colour after 30 weeks

I know highlights are considered v low risk as little meets your skin. But what about all over colour, in a salon? I want to have a semi- permanent colour done (dark brown) at around 38 weeks but concerned as the colour obviously covers your scalp. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance

Not a problem at all.

The skin contact issue is to do with allergies in the 1st trimester, NOT fetal damage. NHS guidance is clear.

They do say use reputable branded products, nothing ordered from far overseas off the Internet as EU laws and USA laws keep branded dyes safe ... but a salon would surely use salon brands anyway?

Thanks Squizita. Yes, salon uses one of the major brands. Hopefully ok then? Smile

Yeah should be. The NHS think so! I think in the past they were wary but now anything dodgy has been banned in the EU so it's safe.
I've dyed my hair, my mw said it was fine!

I had it done at about 5 weeks and again at 30 weeks - hairdresser was one of the first people I told as I checked with her first. Very little actually touches your scalp these days especially if applied in a salon.

Only thing I was told was colour may not be the same as hair can change during pregnancy so may not take as well/in the same way as normal.

I dye my hair completely every 2 months, using the same home dye product I always have (Naturtint).

I don't know if it's true but I read somewhere on a baby website (can't remember which one!) it is advised to be weary as the dye can have some unexpected colour-wise because of hormones? But if it is the case, it is only cosmetic!

I've been dying my hair all along. Highlights and all over colour.

Thanks for replies - v reassuring. I haven't minded not having my hair coloured for a while, but would like to have it done before baby arrives. Then I'll look pale, exhausted, etc etc but at least I'll have nice hair!
Did anyone find the colour did anything funny?

I went to the hairdressers when I was 8 months + pregnant. Lying down to have my hair washed was the most uncomfortable experience imaginable. It felt like I was being crushed.

Here is a patient information leaflet that summarises all of the available scientific information about use of hair dye in pregnancy. Hope this is helpful

Had huge tantrum and did it again! That was the only time it went wrong I've been bleaching and dyingy hair for years....still am at 19weeks and will continue to do so so I have something I like about myself!!!!
