Wasn't the urine test done there and then? Have you done a HPT recently?

I guess if the dr phoned, he did a blood test. Both types of test are quite accurate and work on detecting beta HCG. The blood test will give the dr an exact number that you tested at. I think - but I'm not sure - that a number under 5 = not pregnant.
5 is the lowest number that a urine test can detect - that's what I found out when I was using them. Some need 15 or 25 before they give you a positive. The dr might be right and you picked up the tail end of your august pregnancy hcg. Or you may have had a second chemical.
Maybe you could call the surgery to get the hcg number if it puts your mind at rest.
I hope that's some help. Best wishes.

ah, posting while you've clarified situation!
Superdrug is the test that detects at 5 in case you want to do another in a few days. they cost £4 each I think.

Pg test isn't really something most GPs would send away - too expensive for a start.

OP is this a one man band GP? I think I would be looking to change to a practice with better facilities.

I would think you are pregnant if you have had 4 positive tests at home.

Have you tried a digital test with fmu?

soph123kay · 11/09/2014 23:47

no not yet i wanted to wait a few days before i done digital because i wanted to make sure i saw "pregnant" now dr has said theres no chance he's took out all the joy if u know what i mean i feel like ive got my hopes up to be told no its not happening this time. if i had enough hormone in my body to show up positive now surely i would after the miscarriage it wouldnt get higher now after. im so confused i feel like i cant go back to my dr now cause he made me feel silly like it was impossible and i couldnt even ask questions as there was ppl around i didnt want overhearing the conversation i was on school run.

Don't give up hope.

I look forward to seeing a pic of your positive digital. You are apparently more fertile after a mc so its not uncommon to conceive without a period in between.

Sorry for your loss, and best of luck when you test x

Don't go back to docs and consider changing.

Several high street brands are more sensitive than GP urine tests. FR, tesco, wilkinsons, super drug, all test smaller amounts of HCG. Think the wilkinsons / home bargains dip strip tests just need 10miu so are very sensitive. Cheap too!

I had 3 positive home tests, but a negative at the doctors. My tests were right. Yours probably will be too :)

Definitely get a new GP.

Change doctors. Sounds like he didn't check your urine until the day he phoned you. I was told by my doctor that a urine sample can not be older then an hour. If it is over that time they will ask for a new urine sample to get the accurate result..

Good luck. I will whisper a congrats! As 4 positive home test sounds to me like you are pregnant Smile

i think i will change drs even when you need an appointment for something else i feel like ur rushed in and out within 5 mins. i will return if i am pregnant with big bump and dance round surgery (think truffle shuffle) lol xx

OP it's easy to change GP. Just walk into the new practice of your choice and ask to register as a patient. You don't need to say you want to change & no-one will ask.

Once you're pg (and it sounds like you are as home pg tests are very accurate, most GPs wont bother retesting you if you've had a positive home test), you want to access good quality ante and post natal care for you and the baby.
