Ugh piles - any tips

I'll spare you all the gruesome details but it's getting pretty bad down there. I'm 38 weeks and I have the external type of piles that are clearly visible and painful.

I'd appreciate advice on a couple of things. Firstly, if I don't do anything, could this situation make labour even worse? I'm concerned that as the perineum gets such a bashing during pushing I could be in for even more trouble. My second question is how did you treat this issue? Diet isn't a problem - I eat loads of grains and bran, plus drink loads of water.

Thanks in advance...

If they're really bad, go to your GP and ask them to prescribe something. I had similar at 36 weeks and got Scheriproct which sorted them v quickly - much stronger than the OTC stuff.

I was the same with op tried OTC stuff nothing worked. Eventually went to docs and they Gave me Anusol hc cream which worked very quickly and they stayed away for a few months but the symptoms are starting again. I was told to go back if it started again.

Cold flannel pressed on them can help (remember to wash it not use it on your face afterwards)! I had them really bad- it was like broken glass between my arse cheeks you have my sympathies. Ring the doctor, they can probably prescribe over the phone.

This was a problem for me in my last pregnancy and I was prescribed cream by my GP to deal with it. That took away some of the discomfort anyway and my GP reassured me that piles have no impact on the delivery. She was right - the piles made no difference in delivery, provided 'cushioning' if anything (!) and shrank down pretty quickly afterwards too. I am prone to them anyway so with me I think it was just all the weight and pressure in that area swelling them up. It is grim though!

You have my sympathy, I got them once after labour
The cream from the GP helped to shrink and relieve them and also be careful when you sit on the loo. Not easy at 38 weeks but try and lean forward a bit to take the pressure off your bum.
Hope you get some relief soon.
