Accessing maternity nets from previous pregnancies

I am pregnant for the second time. If I want my maternity notes from my first pregnancy - held by the hospital where I had DD - I have to pay £50! Is that a bit shocking or what. Anyone else had any experience of getting hold of theirs?

As far as I know, that is the legal maximum that they are allowed to charge, so they've obviously gone for the max. I think you can go in and read them for max £10 though?

I got mine for 50. Wish I'd known they kept them as I could just have photographed the pages I wanted on my phone!

£50 is the standard fee for obtaining copy medical records under the Data Protection Act.

Wow! I got mine for free from Edinburgh Royal Infirmary as I had had a traumatic birth and was moving abroad and pregnant with my second so wanted my notes to show the new hospital.
My file was huge!

Which bits did you want to see -or was it the lot? Think we should all be prepared to photocopy/scan our notes!

I want just one letter really. So I tried the hospital where the relevant consultant was based but they don't keep records from 2011. Tried my GP as apparently they get a copy of absolutely any letter ever written but they couldn't find it and suggested I try old GP surgery in case they hadn't sent over complete notes! Tried them, meant to call me back, didn't, so got to chase up tomorrow.

People who paid and got them, how long did it take? They're quoting the maximum 40 days but was it any quicker for you?
