I didn't realise until recently that GBS was something I "should" worry about and I didn't receive my test pack until today. The test should be taken between 35 and 37 weeks. I can't work out if they mean up to 37 weeks or including 37 weeks, but the point is that it wouldn't be nice to go into labour and then find out that I am GBS positive and should have had antibiotics. I am meant to get my results in a text within 3 working days of the receipt of my swabs, but I'm not sure how long it will actually take before they receive my swabs as they are to be sent in the postage-paid envelope provided.
What would you do in my situation? Am I unlikely enough to have gone into labour by let's say a week from now for it to be worth sending off the swabs today? And now I don't mean worth it in a financial sense, but considering the stress of finding out too late I should have had antibiotics.
Has anyone here used www.groupbstreptest.co.uk? How long did it take from sending off the swabs to receiving the results? Do you have to talk to your midwife first as the request form asks for your midwife/consultant details? I am very unlikely to manage to get hold of mine today and obviously leaving it even longer is a bad idea. If you were GBS positive, were you taken seriously by the maternity staff? Can you be denied antibiotics if you are GBS positive, but have no other risk factors?
Sometimes I really wish I would have been pregnant before the internet existed so I could have been blissfully unaware of everything bad that can happen in rare cases.
Really hoping for quick response to this as I only have a few hours to decide and send off the swabs, so thanks in advance for any replies!
