Disappointing midwife appointment :-(

I'm 41 weeks pregnant and had midwife appointment this morning. Different midwife as my usual one is away this week. At my last midwife appointment the midwife attempted a sweep, although the cervix was still pretty far back, and gave me a bishops score of 3.

Today, the midwife did an internal and announced the cervix was too far back and so it wasn't possible do a sweep. (She wasn't very gentle either). She then booked my induction with the hospital over the phone and she told them I had a bishops score of 2 Sad Although she didn't write my bishops score in my notes Hmm

I'm feeling disappointed and like induction is inevitable. I know induction isn't the end of the world, but I won't be able to go to the lovely MLU if I'm induced, and also a close family member is visiting from abroad for a few days next week, and if I'm induced it's likely they will have returned home before the baby arrives Sad I know there's nothing I can do, but feel like I'm letting my family member down Sad

Anyone had anything like this happen and had a positive outcome?

You could try acupuncture. I was like you and did end up being induced which although I took A couple of days was fine. I did everything I could (including using acupressure point massage) apart from acupuncture to get labour going as couldn't get an appointment in time. However my friend went through the same thing and tried acupuncture at a local clinic when she was told she had an unfavourable cervix and her son was born 12 hours later.

Your relative will understand, babies do things to their own timetable, something they continue to do once here. Good luck.

Thank you. I've just looked into acupuncture online, and found somewhere near me so hoping they may be able to offer me an appointment Smile

to be honest I had 5 membrane sweeps and none of them did anything apart from really hurt, wish I'd been a bit more proactive in telling them to stop.

I remember the last few weeks waiting driving me bananas! Fingers crossed everything gets going soon.

Acupuncture and reflexology!

Also, you can refuse induction if you want to.

My pg yoga teacher swore by massaging the base of your toes - big toe I think - to bring on labour.

I had a low score too, I googled and convinced myself I would need a induction.....the day before I was booked in for the induction I went into labour myself.

Going on a reallly really long walk uphill did it for me.

Ignore the midwife when I was in labour one told me I was 1 cm dialated and to go home. I asked to be checked by a doctor who measured me at 5cms and told me to stay put. I had dd 2 hours later.
Maybe the midwife today had freakishly small hands and fingers. (I think mine who said I was 1cm dialated must have had freakishly wide fingers :) )

As for your visiting family member you are not letting them down if you don't have the baby by then I'm sure they're just happy to see you

Good luck

I went in for my last midwife appointment on the Wednesday (my due date) and she did an internal and told me there was nothing going on and it was likely I'd go way past my due date.

Waters went on the Friday.

Good luck!

Thank you everyone Smile I'm feeling a little better now, and know that what will be will be. I'm going to go for a walk with DH tonight though just to feel like I'm doing something. Might even try massaging my toes too Wink

They're positive stories blueberry and wee - I hope something similar happens to me Smile

Scarlet that's interesting - I'll hold on to the hope that the midwife today was a bit rubbish/having an off day Grin

oops, sorry not sure what happened there!
I was worried to go through an induction, and was booked in for 40+10. The day before this I went for a long walk and got the house tidied and accepted that i was going for an induction the following morning. Looked at the positives such as being able to be prepared before going to the hospital and having childcare arranged. As it was I went into labour that night, I think because I was no longer stressing about it! My phone alarm to wake me to go in for my induction went off when I was sat eating my toast with my baby next to me Smile
Good luck (or congratulations !) xxx

Sorry you were disappointed. The thing with any internal examination is that they can only tell you what is happening at that specific time and not what us going to happen in the future e.g. you could be examined in labour and be 4cm and feel a bit disappointed yet deliver an hour later. I'm planning on not having any during labour unless deemed by myself or the mw that we will gain from them (my mw doesn't make a habit of doing them).
What I am trying to say is there is still time. I would also try acupuncture, aromatherapy and homeopathy.
