Visiting Europe in the third trimester - insurance help needed!

I am visiting relatives in Italy next week when I will be 32 weeks pregnant with my first child. This is obviously not the best timing but we have a wedding to go to!

I have been in perfect health throughout my pregnancy and the midwife has no concerns with me going, especially as we are travelling over land, not by air.

I have the EHIC card which says I will be covered for medical treatment and costs should I need it while there, but my normal travel insurance doesn't cover me as I will be less than eight weeks before my due date.

Has anyone else travelled quite late on in their pregnancy and got special travel insurance for while they are away? Any advice and tips gratefully received....

I have debenhams insurance and they had no latest date to travel- as long as the airline / ferry co was happy to take you, which in turn probably at 32 weeks means the midwife needs to give you a fit to fly letter just in case. John Lewis was the same when I asked them. There is a certain cutoff date after which you aren't covered for early labour but you are still covered for other things.
Watch out with the EHIC card- it doesn't mean you get free treatment, just that you get treated the same as locals. If Italians have to pay for medical treatment then you will too (I have no idea if they do!!)

Try the Post Office, they don't count Pregnancy as an illness plus they have won best travel insurance 8 years on the trot. I second about the EHIC, if locals pay you will to plus you need to carry it on you.

No idea about pregnancy cover but I find Insure and Go very good at covering quite serious pre existing medical conditions at a very resonable cost.

Perhaps have a look at them and see if they can offer any cover.

Ravenhall Risk Solutions do specialist Mum & Bump Insurance up to 36 weeks which covers if you give birth whilst over there (we've been looking at a trip to Paris at 35 weeks for a friends licensing in his new position).
