Very late GTT, should I be worried?

I'm 38+4. I went for my midwife appointment this morning with a new midwife as my usual lady is on holiday. I have been measuring big for the last few weeks, but not massively so, hovering about the 80th/90th centile for fundal height.

Today, I meausured off the chart and the midwife asked if I had ever had the GTT, which I haven't. She seemed a bit surprised and has booked me in for one on Monday. Obviously, I may not have GD at all and it may just be a big baby or the way I'm carrying, as I am fairly short and everything is out at the front. But I'm a bit concerned that if I have had undiagnosed GD for the last however many weeks, I may have done some damage to myself or the baby? And if I do have GD, there's not exactly a lot of time left to do much about it.

I just wondered if anyone has any thoughts or advice or experience? FWIW, i feel absolutely fine in myself (apart from massive ankles and some rib pain), bp normal, urine normal, baby moving fine.

Personally, I don't see the point of doing such a late GTT. What I would do is get the patient checking their blood sugars around 4 times a day at home and seeing what those results are.

If you do have GDM, improving your sugars for the last few days obviously won't make a difference to growth, but the high sugars go to the baby, who then makes lots of extra insulin to deal with them (insulin is a growth factor which is why GDM babies are baby).

Once the baby is born, if they have been used to high blood sugars, their insulin levels can still be high so they can get neonatal hypoglycaemia, so it might be more difficult/need more encouragement to feed or sometimes they need supplemental tube feeding in more severe cases. That's the only reason for tightening up on things at this very late stage if GDM was confirmed, but to be honest, you might have delivered before Monday!
