Pregnancy

Not sleeping and getting low.

Can anyone help? I'm 32 weeks into my second pregnancy and for no apparent reason just suddenly cannot sleep. I am due to finish work in 3 weeks but right now that might as well be a lifetime away. Last night I ran a huge bath, put in oils, lit candles, read a good book etc and felt completely relaxed at bedtime but within an hour was downstairs flicking through the channels. Consequently, I am rapidly turning into a short tempered, intolerant, fiery, fed-up mother/wife who I barely recognise. Any ideas?

Do you feel like you can sleep at anytime during the day instead?

Could you take annual leave and sleep?

They can't force maternity leave until you get to 36 weeks, so worse case, take a day off sick and go somewhere with a comfy bed - mum's, mates, home if everyone is out - and sleep!

I am 26 weeks and cannot sleep for worry - about everything and anything and nasty pulling pains on the sides of my tummy.

Thank you. Planning a "sick" day tomorrow and hopefully will be able to sleep....we'll see.

I can help with the pulling pains! - try a soft blanket, cushion, towel underneath your side at night. This helps to even up the load (which gets very heavy towards the end!) Also, try not to worry - I too worried about everything with my first and feel much more chilled this time. The bottom line is that as long as your baby is fed, kept warm and loved, they'll be fine. Also ignore the lists of things that people tell you you'll need, afew basics in the first few weeks will be enought to see you through. Finally (I'm on a roll now) don't listen to people's doom and gloom birth stories. My Mother drilled into me that there was no pain on earth like labour and I was terrified. When the day came, I was pleasantly surprised and this time am just looking forward to meeting my baby and enjoying the experience. Good luck!

Hi There,

Good luck on your sick day!

Not worried about birth - been there done that, bump 2 will come out at half the time - my midwife has promised .

I am worried about DIY job in the house, money, how DD will take to baby, if DH will be oaksy at work - you name it I am worried about it, including global warming and the reversing of the poles! I need a large valium tablet I think!
