My lower rib cage is hurting at the back on the right hand side. I thought pain at the front was common in pregnancy so I'm a bit concerned. Any ideas?

It was throbbing last night but apart from weeing a lot,I have no other symptoms. I had a kidney infection a few years ago so I wouldn't be surprised if I had one now but thought I'd feel more ill than I do! Is it safe to wait till Tuesday for a GP appointment or do I need to go yo hospital?

Hi, I'm 36 wks pregnant with twins and I get a lot of rib pain front and back but does tend to be more at the back on right side, much too high to be kidney pain. It is relieved by positioning myself comfortably and resting and does get worse when I'm sitting up unsupported. My ribs have taken a bit of a battering from my twins. Maybe your pain is just your body moving to make room? How many weeks are you and are you carrying high? See if it's eased with good support around the area when resting, hope it helps I do know what you mean, just take it easy.

Bumble - I'm nearly 28 weeks. Thanks for sharing your story, as I thought pg rib pain was usually more at the front! I don't know if I'm carrying high - how can I tell?

If your carrying high your bump will probably start more in the middle of your tummy and maybe point a bit upwards (hard to describe !) I carried high with my first and the twins, if your feeling stress on your ribs you probably are carrying high it's a good thing as I think it helps your body get back to shape easier as your lower muscles aren't stretched so much, it's just hard work on your chest and ribs. Do you know the sex as girls often carry high. Just try resting and see if it helps, if not then check with your midwife for reassurance.

My bump does start in the middle of my chest and when I feel punches or kicks, I get some in my upper stomach and some 'in' my bottom, so perhaps I am carrying high. It's a boy and I have a 'neat' bump so I don't look pg from behind.

In fact, I just received a kick or punch just under my ribs at the front.

Cute! Babies seem to have a way of letting us know things are all ok I've discovered, I keep being told I'm 'neat for twins' so your probably lucky have a neat bump and shrink back to normal after you give birth, that's what happened to me first time round but not sure how ill fair after these two come out!
Good luck with it all.

If it is a kidney infection dont wait! Sometimes you can have minimal symptoms or none at all! Or the whole shabang lol when i had ,y previous kidney infections, i was fine then one day i got up i woke up with horrible pain in my back and after a few hours i felt more ill and in the end i could hardly walk as i had no energy! Ended up in hospital and it had turned to septicemia! The hospital kept saying are you sure you havent been feeling ill the past few days i was like well i wouldnt have gone work if i knew -.- even i dont understand how i had no warning! Ive always suffered with my kidneys and uti's so i know the symptoms straight away and would have gone docs if id have known. Also my water was clear when the hospital tested it but the sepsis and infection shiwn up in my bloods. I hope its just normal back ache as i thought it was just normal kidney pain and baby was making it worse, but when they scanned my kidneys thats when they found it is blocked :( now gotta have a nephrostomy tube fitted in a couple of weeks as the functions slowing :( x

Well, I've always suffered from UTIs as well so, like you,I thought I would have noticed. Have had no pain or symptoms today so I can only assume all is well. I mean, I can't go to the doctor and say I feel fine but think I have a kidney infection... However, I had a blood test on Thursday so hopefully if something was wrong, they will pick it up.

Yes a boy and girl! I've had kidney infection before which started as hip pain, I really hope u haven't got one it's horrible, would probably have knocked you for six by now if u did. But if you get UTI's might be a good idea to see GP as you never know, so much to consider when there's a small person on board!
