Pregnancy

is there something wrong with me?

I have pushed this to the back of my mind for over a month now telling myself it's nothing, but it's starting to really get to me.

Every morning now for over a month without fail I wake up with a pounding headache. Sometimes it will eventually fade by lunchtime, but more often than not I have to take paracetomal to make it go. I drink lots of water during the day, and in fact am thirsty all the time, so am downing glasses of water to try and quench my thirst. I have just moved to a new area and registered with a new gp, but could take week to get an appt. I am about 18 weeks pregnant.

Any ideas what this is? Should I be worried?

I would go see the go and midwife. I'm not trying to scare or worry you but I was like that and I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. But it could be something else go get it checked most of the time it is nothing.

I had quite frequent headaches in the first trimester.

But if you think your'e abnormally thirsty then I would see a GP just to make sure everything is ok.

I'm getting lots of head aches too- could be hormones, could be low bp or low blood glucose? Get it checked if it's every morning!

I'd mention it at your next antenatal appointment. Another possibility could be the way your head / neck are positioned during sleep?

I've been having this at night, mentioned it to midwife this week she checked for pre eclampsia I was fine and had a negative gd test the week before. She said you are more prone to headaches in pregnancy. But get it checked out to be on the safe side.:)

Thanks all. I haven't changed the way I sleep really...I did think of that.

I knew headaches were more common, but it's getting ridiculous! I will mention it at my next appt. I am worried about the amount of paracetomal I'm taking to be honest...

It's a lot easier to get accidentally dehydrated when pg, so it could just be that while you are getting enough water during the day, when you sleep your kidneys are extracting water from your system more than there is spare to be extracted. Do you avoid drinking water just before bed because you want to avoid having to wake for a pee? You might be better off having a big drink before sleep and putting up with the concomitant waking.

If it's not that, there might be some vitamin or mineral deficiency going on. Are you having any cravings? These can be your subconscious giving you hints about what it needs: e.g. bananas=potassium etc.

Don't wait until your next routine appointment, seriously, either see your GP or MV tomorrow, whichever one is easiest for you to access. This might be nothing to worry about, but it could actually be something serious that needs dealing with ASAP.

Having lots of paracetamol is not great either, and could be contributing to the headaches (strangely too many can cause withdrawal headache).

I had the same thing a few months ago in my second trimester. Ended up going to a walk in centre one day after work as I was worried ike you about to amount of painkillers in was taking. Also wanted to make sure it wasn't anything serious. They checked me over and all was normal so put it down to hormones and gave me stronger painkillers.

It's definitely worth getting checked out ,to put your mind at rest if nothing else, but try not to worry in the meantime.

I had the worst headaches ever in the first trimester and then about 4 weeks respite before they came back with a vengeance at any point of the day/night. They eased off by 20 weeks. 4head roll on was the only thing that worked. Hope you get some relief soon x

Get it checked out. That does not sound normal..

Ring your midwife. Could be nothing (the dehydration could be causing the headaches) but don't muck about.
