Just found out I'm pregnant, but stomach cramps?

Is this normal? I had a light bleed 3 days ago which I assume was implantation. I'm now 4weeks pregnant and got my bfp this morning. How normal are mild stomach cramps like period might be starting at this stage?

Hi Monkey.
I've had cramps so far throughout my pregnancy (I'm 9weeks today) & can only describe them as period like cramps very low in my stomach. I've spoken to my GP & midwife about them who both have reassured me it's normal. For more reassurance I did research on here (mumsnet) & via google on various forums, blogs & websites & again it all seems pretty common.

However, if you start to bleed or the cramps worsen I'd suggest you call you midwife or GP. Feel free to call the midwife even if they don't change & just continue, for reassurance if nothing else.

Ok thank you so much, that's started to ease my worries.

If in doubt - call the midwife :) It's her job & she really won't mind.

But unless they get worse, just try to relax & take things easy. I know it's easier said than done sometimes!

And congratulations!

I had cramps too... It's totally normal. I think they say that when there's cramps and bright red blood you should see someone ( but actually, I had that too and was fine!)

I had cramps too, that I would describe as period like pain. GP and Midwife described it to me as my uterus starting to stretch etc in preparation for the baby growing (whereas at time of a period, it's contracting).

Obviously if they get more painful etc, speak to midwife straight away. But mild cramps are totally normal.

Congratulations by the way

Many thanks for everyone's advice. I'm a bit worried this time around as I had an early miscarriage at 5 and a half weeks in January. Didn't have cramps before I started bleeding then though so hopefully this is a good sign of baby making it's home properly!

I've had "period pains" since I got my BFP on Monday night. It is worrying, but from what I've read on here its really common and normal in early preg. I think the thing that worried me was that whenever i googled "cramping in early pg" it just came up with pages about miscarriage/ chemical pregnancy :-/ So, stay away from google! :-)

I'm also getting lower back ache too and a feeling like I need to go to the toilet for "the other thing" too now. Is that normal?

Not sure tbh. One thing I've noticed is that my cramping is worse in the evening though.

I had cramping, loose stools and really bad wind as my early pregnancy symptoms (attractive)! But yes, cramping is very common!

Thanks for sharing, really need my mind at rest now. I'm going to doctors Wednesday if cramps haven't stopped.

I had cramps for about two months, some were extremely painful. It's just the uterus stretching but it was worrying at the time!

Hey all!! Yep, I'm 5 weeks pregnant & I have pains too! I'm not too concerned, from what I've read it's just everything stretching a bit! Got my first midwife appointment on 14th May, so fingers crossed! Love & best wishes to you all! :) x
