Anyone else allergic to ultrasound gel?

Within the last year I have developed really bad eczema. Have had a biopsy and patch test and am now allergic to some ingredients in ultrasound gel. Am about 6 wks with dc3, does anyone know if there is any other product that can be used during scans and monitoring?

Start by calling your maternity unit /dept and ask them what they have. Then I'd get online and google. See if you can purchase some yourself. There must be an alternative.

ultrasound waves will pass through water. you can even pass it through a water filled condom (don't ask how i know this). this works for therapeutic ultrasound. i don't know about diagnostic but i suppose the theory should be the same.

but yes there are alternatives. there's probably a non-allergenic version of the gels too.

as giles says, call the department so they are prepared.
